the 1125R has a sprag clutch that is mounted to the back of the rotor. There is also a friction starter gear that the starter output shaft engages with. What is the purpose of this starter friction gear/clutch? The part number for this friction clutch is Y0538.1ama.

It should be no.15 on the diagram in this link

The actual starter teeth turn the large section of the gear and the small section engages with the one way sprag housing.
So just another section of the starter gear set.
