When I start my bike after a short stop for gas the oil light stays on until I rev it a little. It never comes on when I'm riding,  just after starting with a hot engine. Is this normal?

Oil level right? Mine has never done this..

Level is fine. I think I may go to 50 wt. I'm not suer what's in it now.

20w/50 is what should be in there. Is the light for level, pressure or both?

i would say pressure. could be that there is  oil in there that is actually to thin. so, if you don't know what oil is in your bike, i would suggest removing it and using good synthetic 20/50 made for aircooled vtwins. if that doesn't help...overcheck your connections, lines and the oil pressure switch. if you can't see anything wrong with that, you gotta check your oilpump.
