Thread: More power!

  1. #1
Hey guys, I'm looking into increasing the power in by xb12r. I already have a k&n air filter, an aftermarket exhaust, and a crankcase breather reroute. What would be the next step in order to get more power?

EBR Race ECM tuned for your exhaust... other than that... big bore kit or a ninja like Alien said ;)

The XB's are not 180 HP speed machines, but what they lack in top end speed, they more than make up for in low-end torque and cornering. You aren't going to be able to significantly increase the speed of your bike unless you are willing to put up some big money to do it.

I liked the dobeck tbi. Easy to tune and had more increase were I wanted it. I liked it better then the Ebr ECM. That's tuned for my setup.
That's my opinion while a bunch of buellers on here , will argue with tuning?

Which exhaust do you have and what year is your bike.
I would be glad to sell you the Ebr race ECM for what I paid, and put the dobeck back on my bike

    Buy a ninja.

Otherwise, try an advanced rider training course. It'll help you go faster than any aftermarket mods will.

To answer the original question: the next logical step would be engine mods ( head porting, big bore kit, cams or a combination of all).
Chasing big hp numbers on an XB can be a very expensive proposition. The best thing you can do, without parting with piles of money, is either learn to enjoy the bike for what it is or move on to another ride (no shame in either).
I have done the latter (move on) before and I can tell you one thing; few bikes out there have the combination of character and capability that a Buell does. I've owned faster bikes (MUCH faster) but I sold them and came back to a Buell because it just makes me smile to ride it.

I think what you already did got you most of the way. An EBR computer, or tuning would be the next most obvious choice IMO.

After that it's more of a matter of budget. Sure you could get a little more out of it. But the cost to get a little more will be very expensive per HP.
