Well, my beautiful 04 xb12R is no more . Hit a deer at 70MPH Tuesday night coming home from work. Other than a totalled bike and some road rash I'm OK. Luckily I wear full gear at all times when riding cuz it saved my hide(for the most part). Hoping the insurance adjuster gets here soon so I can get the $ for another XB12R and new gear. A word to the wise-this is the second deer I've hit in seven years. Both times I was wearing full gear and it saved my life for sure!!! I always tell fellow riders who don't always gear up cuz of being too warm that I'd rather be warm than dead . looking forward to being back on two wheels soon!

Sorry about your situation - I hope it's all taken care of correctly and I'm glad to hear you're ok.
And I thought I had a story to tell when I ran over a squirrel the other day!!

Oh man here in central Washington state we have marmots? Im not sure the spelling and too lazy to google it. Like giant ground hogs. Live all next to the highways, almost wrecked me a few times. Hard breaking at 80+ = no fun.

Thanks for the posts! Already found a handfull of xb12R's to look at if the adjuster ever gets here. A couple had race kits too which would be a plus. Wishing I could go vent in the mud on my monster wheeler but not a great idea with all of the exposed flesh on my arm

wow, glad to know you made it out alive, a high percentage of deer accidents end in death...Hitting deer is my biggest fear out here in Jersey (we have sooo many in this area DAY and NIGHT )... Good luck with getting a new bike, maybe you will be happier wth your new one

your arm looks painfull!!! I dont own any protective gear other than a helmet . Do you just put it on over your work cloths? I work construction and have to walk or be bussed into work then we have to share a break room with at times 30 or more people that you dont know and sometimes people get stuff stolen out of their lunch boxes. So I dont take anything worth more then 5 bucks to work with me other then my welding hood ever.
Also i cant imagine that bike looks like yu could ride it off, if all the leavers were still there.
hope you heal soon and get tons of money!

Sucks about the crash. Glad you're ok though.
Gear has saved my butt a couple times. I wear full leathers, 100% of the time when I ride. Even a low speed crash tears through jeans like butter...let alone the t-shirt and shorts I see some idiots riding around in. People who don't wear gear make me laugh. But not wearing gear is your right...so to all those who don't, I say go for it...ride with that tank top blowin' in the wind. Just know that you look like a absolute tool while doing it.

The deer definitely got the worse end of the deal. Bike is pretty twisted. Won't roll straight at all. A suggestion for burnteyes on the gear. I used to work where we had no place to store our gear so I would fold it flat and place it on my gas tank or seat and cargo net it down. Then I put my cover on and had a lock I would run through the grommets under the bike so someone would have to go through a whole lot of trouble to get to anything. Ditto on the other post about gear. It's everyone's choice but if you've ever seen a bad crash by someone who hasn't been wearing gear it isn't pretty and the outcome is almost never good.

I crashed a few years back with no gear on. my excuse was it was 110+ outside. I lost about 36% of the skin on my body. now when its 110+ I have an Icon mesh jacket to keep me safe. you wont see me on the road without it!

Geez, hmm glad the deer is alright and hope your arm gets better, good luck with the insurance guy. Hope you're back on 2 wheels soon.
I always wear full riding gear, the Army makes me, but even if they didn't...I hit gravel at 45mph on a dirtbike when i was a bit younger, 6 weeks later i was still pulling dirt out of my skin...never again.

I crashed one time without gear, in college when I was young and stupid. Soaking in the tub for an hour before class just so I could remove my bandages. Limping everywhere because a flexed muscle would tear scabs. My right arm, right leg, hands. That shit hurts. And it didn't scar. I can imagine if it was deep enough to scar. I'll take a broken bone over that any day. I wear full Vanson perf leathers, full face helmet, Sidi boots, gloves...every time I ride. Every time. I don't run errands on my bike, when I ride its time to ride. Gear up people. And for those who don't wear helmets...well, there's no convincing a brain that doesn't have the sense to protect itself.

no matter what temp outside, i always wear full leather.
but then again, i not very often we get above 35°C (95°F) here. i would atleast look into some kevlar pants to go with the jacket
got a friend in jeans who got bumped by a car coming out of nowhere and he slid across the tarmac on his butt. now, he has no more butt-cheek on the rh side.

FYI-I may buy the bike back from the insurance company and part it out. Take a look at the pics on the post and let me know what you would be interested in and how much.

after this post and since my birthday is coming up
I told my g/f to order me an icon perf jacket, i just dont know if i want white or black and im not sure about fitting. I think all black will look better with my bike (orange) but i would think it would get hot quicker.

So wait... did the deer live? Just wondering if that much damage can be caused by a deer that lives through it.

Thanks to all for interest in the parts but the bike is going to the insurance co. They wanted $2700 to buy it back and I would've been lucky to break even parting it out

I'm looking for a seat cowl (the rear cover) and your bike is the same color as mine so let me know what you want for that if you do decide to buy it from Ins co to part it out.
