was just wondering if anyone had put any ethenol in their bikes yet. some people around here are running it in non flex fuel vehicles, say it runs fine. can also get 110 octane ethenol, is it worth a test run?

Doesn't sound like a good idea. I think its hard on your fuel system(fuel pump, lines, etc.). And you will be running very lean.

I'm thinking ask your dealer, maybe they can help you out with that one, if not, then don't risk it. You should be getting well over 40MPG even if you drive like a Freakin' Hooligan (like me ) well at least where it's safe to do so, for you and everybody else.

DO NOT USE ETHENOL!!! it will in a very short time eat your gaskets and seals, dropping the compression in your motor and requiring a full rebuild to repair. plus it will run like crap on ethanol. less power and less mileage.

I do not recommend running it cause it will damage the motor over time. But I have ran it through my 9r and it ran really good but it is not worth the end result (motor rebiuld). Ethenol is Alcohol with 15% gas so people won't drink it. It burns hotter and faster. I could be wrong but dont beleive so.

That is a cool web-site. But they dont talk about the effect it has on the fuel lines and gaskets. Good find though.

Me thinks maybe looking up the required mods to just run straight alcohol and then making your own alcohol (which is legal in some states as long as it is not intended for consumption!!!!!)....
I think you have to increase compression.....
More to follow on this....
Follow Up 1... you have to get a license/permit from the ATF to make your own alcohol for fuel....
Follow Up 2... you have to change out any and all fittings/hoses that will come into contact with the fuel with aircraft grade fuel lines/steel lines/ or urethane lines. The alcohol will eat through these...

Needed to add a little more, I will be putting the conversion kit on my 'bolt as soon as we have more stations in Idaho that sell E85, currently we only have 3 pumps in the whole state

Yeah, you can make more power on E85, you can run more compression, it's alcohol. You will use a lot more fuel though, and it sounds like a decsent amount of work to change everything over. You will also need a crazy re-map.

I will have to look this up again, but i'm fairly certain that the buell manual says that it is safe to run 10% ethenol in your buell... I will get back to you on this.

Yeah, you can run 10% ethanol, all of the gas around here has that already. But that's nowhere near E85, which is 85% ethanol

you get crappy gas mileage and posiblity of engine and / or fuel system damage from ethanol BLENDED WITH GAS( E10 ) and several universties have done studies show that milage is worse with E10 and gets worse with higher blends of ethanol like E17 E24 E30 and even Your E85 . I personally dont run any ethanol blended gas in any of my vehices since it has cause problem with my fuel filter and possibly my injectors on my car and i have read several ethanol promoting company that state in there cleaning of the storage tanks(at gas stations) if not done properly ( or not cleaned prior to put in E10 or E85 or other blends) that it cause the sediment and gum build up to get to the pumps and possibly past the pumps filters( that would get into your gas tank)also this would happen in your gas tank as well then clog your filter and/ injectors /or pump .I can only imagine what that do to an old car from pre 1975. sucks that the government wont tell the public what possible harm in might do to yor vehicle or that your fuel efficiency will go down ( especially when they are pushing for higher fuel efficiency vehicles now that funny )check the info here on
e85

if you have a boat read this

this even states that e85 is more corrosive and requires special fuel lines http://www.idahoethanol.com/pages/Faq.html
owners manual says this , (but remember they want to sell bikes and need good public relations to help sell bikes but they are honest about it effecting your fuel efficiency)
Your motorcycle was designed to get the best performance and efficiency using unleaded gasoline. Most gasoline sold is blended with alcohol and/or ether, to create "oxygenated" blends. The type and amount of alcohol or ether added to the fuel is important.
Do not use gasoline that contains methanol. Doing so can result in fuel system component failure, engine damage and/or equipment malfunction. (00148a)
Gasoline containing METHYL TERTIARY BUTYL ETHER (MTBE): Gasoline/MTBE blends are a mixture of gasoline and as much as 15% MTBE. Gasoline/MTBE blends can be used in your motorcycle.
ETHANOL is a mixture of 10% ethanol (Grain alcohol) and 90% unleaded gasoline. Gasoline/ethanol blends can be used in your motorcycle if the ethanol content does not exceed 10%.
REFORMULATED OR OXYGENATED GASOLINES (RFG): "Reformulated gasoline" is a term used to describe gasoline blends that are specifically designed to burn cleaner than other types of gasoline, leaving fewer "tailpipe" emissions. They are also formulated to evaporate less when you are filling your tank. Reformulated gasolines use additives to "oxygenate" the gas. Your motorcycle will run normally using this type of gas and Buell recommends you use it when possible, as an aid to cleaner air in our environment.
Do not use race gas or octane boosters. Use of these fuels will damage the fuel system.
You may find that some gasoline blends adversely affect the starting, drivability or fuel efficiency of your bike. If you experience one or more of these problems, we recommend you try a different brand of gasoline or higher octane rating.

Had to post this as a follow-up. Maybe some day the price for the conversion will be alittle more reasonable
