Has anyone out there installed one of these things? I've never heard of a Firebolt dying due to a lack of oil; is this a true "track only" part (I already have the old race kit on my XB12R)? Thanks.

no, there is kind of a problem with the drivegear. it will wear down pretty fast (some even before 16000km), cause major engine damage. this gear is stronger and will last longer.

I have seen plenty of bike with double and triple that mileage on them without any problems. Seems to me like abuse, lack of maintenance, or bad oil selection is the problem.

(standard gear on '06(?) & '07) well, i'm not taking the chance and check it every 10000km

I don't have any problems (as of yet) with my bike, but last time I changed the oil I noticed a concerning amount of metal in the oil. Doe's anyone think this is from my oil pump drive gear. Also I have an 05 XB12S which I just found out in this thread was the last year before the factory upgrade.
