So I said goodbye to the rice (R1) burner this weekend , sold it to a lady in Oklahoma city, but she couldn't afford to ship it. Since she bought it as present for her husband returning from Iraq and I could use the time away i told her i would ride it down to her sounded like a good idea at the time 12 hours not to bad from dekalb IL to okc OK started great for about six hours ran into some bad weather but nothing to bad. Then hours seven to ten the boys and the bottom started to feel the pain. Hours ten to twelve were utterly horrible i missed my Buell and swore to never ride a Yamaha again my legs were cramped , the boys were screaming, i was completely baked by the sun, but i couldn't put on anymore clothes do to the lovely 110 degree Oklahoma heat and the fresh scorching blacktop on the turner turnpike. Anyone else have any horror stories or ways to better prepare for these trips.

Well, only 8 hour ride, 400 miles, KY to SC beautiful ride down, only ripped the throttle up to 110-120 a few times, love the curves going down through tennessee... The ride back was fine for the first half hour, then people took turns cutting me off, changing lanes into me, slamming on their brakes in front of me, and then nature decided that rain drops as big as golf balls was a good idea...3 hours in the rain at 80mph is no joke, I thought it was going to take my freakin head off. My wife followed me up there and back in her car, she was terrified on the way back, every time we stopped for fuel she kept asking me if I wanted to just leave the bike there before I died and come back for it in a day or two...it was really bad....so....um....next?

I have to disagree, it's getting better around the Fort Knox area, mainly because there are more of us, and also because if you are a Soldier/DOD Employee you are required by post regulation to wear a reflective belt/vest at all times while on a motorcycle. Minimum of 12 square inches of reflective material. But it's true, those freaking cagers that are causing most of the accidents involving motorcycles. Most of the racing and stunting is moving to designated areas now.

Not quite, trained at Fort Knox, went to Korea for a year, now I've been back at Fort Knox for a year and a half or so, and I'm going to Germany from here.

I have to agree with FIDOSOL,I live in CA,and becouse of the gas price issue, there are a lot more people riding motorcycles to work than ever before. Most people give respect to the bikes, with the exception of a few buttheads,I just push their mirrors forward as I squirm by in the space they have not given me I don't or haven't yet done long hauls, but I ride 145 miles right now round trip to work and back.About 1 1/4 hours each way.

Just went from central Washington state up to Vancouver Canada. 450mile round trip plus some puttin around up there. And wow Canadians dont mess around on the freeways, everyone is doing 90mph. Good drivers in my opinion . Cruised her at about 100-110 all the way from the border Vancouver and it didn't feel all the fast with everyone moving like they were. Not too many close calls, few people looking sorry after trying to take my lane but a flick of the throttle and all is good. Taking Stevens Pass over the Cascade mountains is one of the best roads Iv taken. Great 40mph corners that feel great at 85+ with the 80+ degree heat beating down on hot pavement. And how great is it to pass a hour long line to cross the border on the shoulder and get across in 15mins, they must hate me haha.

I was in Pohang South Korea training with the ROK Marines for 3 months for Operation Team Spirit

I rode home from Fort Lauderdale once on my YZF600R in a tropical storm. It rained buckets for the 400 mile trip, so hard sometimes I could not see the car in front of me.

Personally haven't had it happen to me but I am sure a few of you guys can relate. On a hot day with ur visor flipped up u end up getting a Bee or wasp fly into ur face. I bet that sucks.

So, the story is on Interstate 5 that runs thru Oregon the state police have started paying truckers to drive back and forth with a state trooper in the cab calling out traffic violations to waiting patrol cars. Watch out Oregonians!!!

Now that would suck to make a long haul with a Trooper at your side. Most of them dont like the fuzz from what I understand...unless you get to carry a gun and pop a few rounds into a bank robber or out of control car.
