Hi, My brother-in-law has a XB12R and yesturday he was riding and all of a sudden his gauges went out. Made it down the road to where he was going, when he came out to leave the bike would not start. It made a chattering click sound. He was able to push start it, road it about 2 miles and it shut off on him on the highway. Let it cool down and he was able to push start it again, but this time only went about 1/2 a mile and it shut off. The battery he has is 6 months old, any suggestions to troubleshoot would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a battery or a regulator to me.  Batteries can even die in 6 months, its not un common.  Check them both.
