Hi, I just bought a used Buell XB12Ss that came from Japan. We have a great gig here in New Zealand where we import hardly used vehicles very cheaply from our oriental neighbours. Mine says on the frame that it was manufactured in Oct 2009 which I'm assuming makes it a 2010 model?

It has some kind of shiny copper coloured aftermarket headers on it but the actual muffler appears and sounds standard. I wanted to unleash some of the V2 noise so I bought an 09 used muffler cheap and was going to get a friend to modify it. However the muffler I bought has a smaller size inlet on the top.

What I'd like to know is were there changes to the muffler inlets over the 09-10 bikes?

This is my first foray into another brand of bike after four ducatis in the last 6 years. It was a toss up between a Ducati m1100 and a Buell and after I rode each one in the same day, I picked the Buell. (I was also getting over the time and cost of ducati maintenance!).

    Cheers!

yes. look at the 10th digit on your VIN. if it is #9 it is 2009....if letter A it is 2010.

    no

    xb9 and xb12 mufflers interchange
xb9 muffler lighter in weight than xb12 muffler
xb12 muffler has interactive exhaust valve......xb9 muffler does not.

Your bike may have come with european headers with a cat they are about 1/4" bigger at the muffler joint so what i did was get the 2007 headers which are bigger pipes but with the smaller muffler joint if that makes sense! i have a 2009 xb12ss with a drummer muffler and ebr ecm man its transformed!!

Thank you very much lunaticfringe and tonethemoan, excellent information! It would be interesting if it has euro headers coming from Japan, all the other jap imports I've seen here seem to have regular headers. Plus it's pretty blingy. Maybe it's an aftermarket euro header? I better whip off the muffler for a closer inspection..

Sexy bike mate and headers! bit out of my depth now but someone will know what headers they are but they look like they have been modded to fit that muffler, check the vin numbers to see what market its made for is it the japanese market or another one? the twin 02 sensors and right scoop must be 2010 model so its all about what that muffler is? i know from mine i changed the uk muffler with a cat which had a 2 1/2" neck for the us spec headers with a 2" neck then fitted a drummer! people on here know lots more than me so hopefully they will help more but in the mean time measure the muffler neck.

Rossonabike when you have measured it give Kev a call at Kdfab.com and he will make a muffler to suit either, i know coz i have both! you wont be disappointed Kev is a personal friend of mine and a true 100% diamond geezer!

European and Japanese headers on the XB12's have a smaller diameter and slightly different shape than the USA headers. As a result, slip on exhausts for USA XB12's will not fit on the Euro/Jap XB12's. I would look into Torque Hammer, Sebring or Remus for your XB12.
