| Love the build but personally I feel if you are going to keep the fairing (only part I dont care for) the bars need a drastic drop to aid in the look with the fairing. | |

turboraven - Where in NC are you? (I'm in Durham) I'd love to see this Buell in person! You should seriously bring it to the Bull City Rumble next year, the guys at that show would really apprecieate the work you put into this! Link here:

Where to begin......
Personally, I hate it. Like, it makes my stomach turn and a part of my soul cry just looking at it kind of hate it. I think you took one of the best handling bikes in the world and completely, totally, and utterly ruined it by turning it into a stupid fat tired, handles like a barge steered by sticking an ore in the water kind of monstrocity. To say it's not my cup-o-tea would be a gross understatement of the highest order. Putting a 280/150 combo on a Buell, in my eyes, is about the same as lifting a Lambo and putting on Swampers. It brings vomit up to the back of my throat.
That being said, as a tinker-er and builder myself I can appreciate a creative project and fantastic fab work. As far as those 2 aspects go I applaud you for some top notch work.
I will observe a moment of silence for a Buell slaughtered in the name of "creativity" though.

Radioactive, I was going to ask the same thing. I am in Raleigh and would love to see this bike in person! Went to the rumble this past year and love it much more than the one in downtown Raleigh. Much more my style with classic bikes and the unusual The Ray Price event is getting a liiiittle better, but the theme is still "loud and show"....

| Sorry to dissapoint you NC guys. I'm from TX but currently reside in MO on Military Orders. I purchased the bike from a guy in NC hence the plate which will be switched out for a TX plate any day now. | |

xtremelow: I actually went out of my way to find the tallest fatbars made (ATV bend) as well as add risers to elevate the bars. My goal here was the most comfortable seating position possible - not slammed and low like a crotch rocket.
For those of you who failed to read through the first post: the point of this build was to make my version of a Sport-CRUISER with comfort as #1 priority but still maintain good brakes and handling manners. This I have achieved. If I want to go FAST or tear down the Tail of the Dragon, my R1 would fill that bill... |

Boss: gotcha, keep us posted when you get going on it.
Sled: I'm followin ya, Bottom line is I built the bike for ME and wouldn't care if everyone else hated it. I'm very happy with it and that's all the matters. My happiness does not hinge on others' approval or disapproval. I know exactly what I want and if it's not available, I build it. I'm just sharing the build cause I love buells and thought you guys might enjoy it. |

No turbo in the works. This is the worst engine design to do a turbo build and will absolutely zap the lifespan out of this engine in an instant. I know that you dont care about it going fast on it and all, but I just wanted to throw it out there that XB's were actually designed to have turbos and many people have proven that they are perfectly reliable. |

| Agree with Dave, it is the few who put to much boost or fail to une a turbo setup correctly that give any turbo build a bad name. With your Ls build you know how important proper tune is. | |

I still disagree that this motor would be reliable under boost. This motor is tuned to its absolute max in stock form and has difficulty keeping itself from overheating as is. Even tweaking it with a cam or slight overbore will cause serious reliability and longevity issues -I've spoken with Buell R&D guys on multiple occasions on this.
It's also an air cooled engine with airflow primarily on the front cylinder. Turbo/SC creates more power by increasing combustion temps and pressures which equals much increased engine temps. This engine has no way of dissapating these increased temps and in turn will self destruct in no time under these conditions whether tuned properly or not. Buell may have initially had an idea to turbo these engines; why do you think that feature never even reached a production model? There MUST be a well designed cooling system to absorb the added heat along with a precise tune to keep any FI engine alive. I've been doing turbo and SC builds for many years now... |

well in that case throw an 1125 engine in it. and turbo that

I agree with higher pressure and hotter engine temperatures but it is not because of an increase in combustion temperature. Combustion temperature is more based on fuel type and equivalence ratio. Mess around with this adiabatic flame temperature applet. http://www.wiley.com/college/mechs/ferguson35 ... |

Yeah it blew up because of a mistake. I copied this from his thread on buelletinboard
During the dyno session I started tuning at "base" boost which is 6psi. As I got things dialed in at that boost level, I cranked up the boost controller to 9psi and adjusted the fueling accordingly. I continued to increase the boost in 3psi increments until I reached 15psi. At that point, the next boost controller adjustment did not yield an increase in boost pressure. Strange, I thought, but tried several more runs, each time cranking the boost controller up further. Finally, I realized what was going on when the connector at the throttle body popped off and ended the dyno day. With intake pressures around 15-16psi, the spring clamp and connector ballooned enough to release some of the intake pressure and prevented the intake pressure from going above 16psi. So no matter how far I turned the boost controller, the pressure never went beyond 16psi. On Sunday, when I secured the throttle body connector, I never turned the boost controller back down. Stupid me!!!!! The rod failure was because the boost controller allowed the boost pressure to spike way beyond what I had seen on the dyno. |

A few new shots after mounting some new hardware. Tom @ T-Rex racing was kind enough to ship me a free prototype set of his new case sliders for Buell XBs. Had to make a few minor mods but they now look and fit like stock pieces and will protect your headers and oil cooler in the event of your bike going down.![]() ![]() ![]()

The bars dont go with how low the fairing is, even if it is for comfort. I like the rest of the bike other than the bars, It ruins the whole look.
Just my .02. |

Xtreme: It feels no different at all. I just throw my leg over and find the peg, I've never run into a snag with it. Besides, I spend 99% of the time with my feet on the forward pegs anyhow.
Oh9: I'll agree with ya. A pair of clubman bars would add style points definitely. But as you read, this bike is my "cruiser" and it's so comfy now, I can ride all day and that's what matters to me. |
