I have had a number of different responses from mechanics at Buell dealerships.  The majority have told me that there is no slipon pipe that will not damage the engine because the bike will run too lean and it will mess with the ECM.  They said they will have the new hardware and software in about 5 months.  They have also said that it will void the warranty.  I have also had other mechanics say that it is fine and I dont even have to worry about remappping.

What is the real deal?  I understand there are many factors involved, but is there somewhat of an answer out there?

Thanks

here's an interesting topic for you to read:  click

now the ecm will adjust a bit, on the '08s without reset, so aslong as you don't use an open airbox with k&n, it should be ok on short term.

on the other hand, i'm not into doing stuff half and always want what is best for the bike. so when changing stuff to my engine, i would always recommend a remap of the ecm.

and for your mechanics info, the bike runs lean from factory. an aftermarket exhaust doesn't improve that fact, though.

Thank you all for the information.  It sounds like common sense to reamp the ecm.  Why take the chance.

Any suggestions for a pipe that will not break a teachers wallet?

jardine has good performance/sound/price, but does require regular maintenaince.

doesn't involve that much, but you do have to do it or you'll get tears in your pipe.

or you can customize your stock exhaust
