I noticed that the tension roller on my XB9 is loose and the belt too. I know that the roller is self adjusting, so does this mean its at the end of its adjustment and I need a new belt. I would usually asume this is the case but I thought the belt life was in excess of 50,000 miles, and I've only done 12,500 miles

Thanks in advance - Andy

The drive belt tension on a new belt will loosen after approximately 1000 mi (1600 km). The drive belt tension is automatically adjusted by the idler pulley. Axle alignment is not adjustable.
Replace drive belt and idler pulley assembly:
● At every 25,000 mi (40,000 km) service interval

That’s copied straight out of the service manual. If it is adjustable, how is it done? There doesn’t seem to be any instructions to do this.

well, as far as i know, the oem belt tensioner is not self adjusting. that's why during hard braking the pressure to the belt will rise and with negative consequences for belt & bearings.

the race one does adjust since it's made with a spring that keeps about 10kg of pressure on the belt.

my xb9x has just gone back to the dealer as on the way to work this morning (first week of my new job!) the belt snapped, leaving me stranded. its an 07 and done 8500 miles!

My understanding is that when the swingarm is fully unloaded there is no tension on the belt. If that is the case, I would say it's not truely self adjusting, it just stays tight and doesn't need adjusting. Who's removed the tire? I will be doing it soon!
