Buell Forum / Buell XB Forum / Buell Lightning XB12S, XB12Ss, CityX, XB12Scg / EBR Racing ECM for 2009 XB12SS = HOT STRIPPERS ASS!

Posted:  13 Feb 2010 04:34 [?]
I put in the aftermarket pipe (termignoni) and bike ran rough with lots of snap, crackle, pop on the decel. Just figured it is what it is and lived with it.
I'm too much of an idiot to figure out the ECM-SPY(still not sure if they even work for 2008+ models.

Long story short. EBR ECM for 2008+ XB's just showed up. Pulled out old ECM, put in new one and a K&N filter, which I didn't dare put in before, (pipe alone made bike run way to lean).

And wahlah. Bike runs as smooth as a hot strippers ass in Vegas. (Jaguars, not Cheetahs!)

Absolutely no decel popping, and added bonus, the cooling fan is almost non-existent. It turns on for brief seconds while riding. Turning bike off, NO FAN. Wow, that was an unexpected surprise. A nice quiet bike that doesn't keep the neighbors up with the loud cooling fan running 10 minutes.

If you are running an aftermarket pipe plus filter, get the ECM. Well worth the $200 bones!!!!

Thank you EBR..You've corrected a major pain in the ass for 2008+ XB's.

Only my 2010 requires the $750 option. That F***ing second O2 sensor.

By the way, I am glad to hear that the EBR ecm has such good results for your bike. It will make it easier to justify my purchase. Thanks for the info.

Ok, just got back from one more rip around the block. I started to doubt a simple ECM could make that much of a difference and thought I was smoking the crack pipe. Thankfully still the same.

Plug and play. Just the way I like it.

This will make my canyon run through the Santa Monica mountains all that more fun tomorrow!

I am so envious that you get to ride right now!!!!!!!!!

Post the site where we can get the info. Thanx

Glad to see that it worked out for you.. I will def be going that route

Do you need a race lisence to get an EBR ECM?
Posted:  13 Feb 2010 16:21 [?]
No

Please let me know what all these abbreviations mean!

I have a Hawk pipe (cannot say enough good stuff about that guy!) currently, but also have a Micron in the box!

I would love to put on the Micron & do an airbox mod.
So far, I have the stock ECM & just the Hawk and a K&N.

Please let me know what is happening. Like many others, I bought an ECM Spy off eBay but feel too stupid to pull that off!

O2 Sensor? Must be in MA or Cali.
No O2 sensor on my 09 here in NC.
That also means if I ever am forced to move back to MA, I can't bring my Buell with me or have to have it retrofitted.

All buells have narrowband O2 sensors fishgutz.  The 2010 have two, one on the front cylinder, one on the rear.  Previous to that, there is only one on the rear cylinder.
Posted:  14 Feb 2010 00:14 [?]
fishgutz the 2010 XBs came with 2 O2 sensors, and that is everywhere. Unless you removed yours, or the previous owner did, you should have 1 by the rear cylinder.
The Cali models have a charcoal canister that filter emissions. It is located by the oil cooler.

Crystal, what abbreviations do you not know?

sweet!!! finally i can do an exhaust and airbox mod with k&n with a good reasonably priced ecu solution.  thank you for posting this, really helped me out.
Posted:  14 Feb 2010 05:55 [?]
Can't see the one in the rear. Must be there. The one on the front for 2010 is ugly. Looks like someone misplaced a spark plug. Damn EPA bureaucrats. Cali is worse.

Ya, I do not really like it, but I think I am going to get the comfort kit right side air scoop, so that should cover it up.

I was wanting a 10 really bad, since there were so few made. I unique model among a unique crowd.

Crystal, I would get that EBR(erik buell racing) ECM asap. Even though  you have an 08 which has better learning capabilities, you're still running lean. Doing both a K&N and a pipe without tuning is playing with fire. I'm very jealous of your micron!

Looks like I might have to do the ERB. Randy can't touch the '09 ECM.
I'll ask over at Max Speed if they are able to retune the ECM. If not, then I'll get the ERB.

Great review JBV. I'll be going the EBR route as well then if it's that easy and makes that much of a difference. $200 is a lot of cash, but here's to saving spare change!

Any chance I could get any of you to read the eeprom from your ECM and send it to me?  I'd be much obliged.
Posted:  15 Feb 2010 21:11 [?]
how you do that?
Posted:  15 Feb 2010 21:19   Last Edited By: theoctopus[?]
Connect to it with a cable and ECMSpy, and click "Read ECM".  Voila.

The reason I'm interested in getting one of the EBR Race ECM eeproms is because with it, I could essentially build a race map that can be flashed to 08+ bikes without having to shell out $250.
Posted:  15 Feb 2010 21:32 [?]
I'd be in for sending it if I had a cable. LOL. I can't even afford the $35 for that. It'll be a week or so.
Posted:  15 Feb 2010 21:46 [?]
Fishgutz, the O2 sensor(s) is/are good things, since they give lean/rich burn info to the ECM to help your bike run its best.  This may have some use to deal with EPA reg's, but without the sensor to read your O2 level in the pipe(s), your electronic fuel injection system will not know  how to react and adapt (through the ECM) to any air/fuel changes needed to optimize performance.

It too bad that you both openly want to rip off Erik Buell, and that you choose to flaunt it in a Buell forum. Is $250 too much for a spare ECU with custom software?
Posted:  15 Feb 2010 22:43 [?]
Good point afinley. I have no problem sending my stock eeprom info out, that's common knowledge from any stock bike. Sending from a EBR ECM? That's another story.
Posted:  15 Feb 2010 22:51 [?]
Does the EBR ECM sut off the exhaust servo or do you still need an emulator?
Posted:  15 Feb 2010 22:57 [?]
Still need an emulator.

afinley, as I have replied elsewhere, I have no intenion oftaking money out of Erik's pockets. You never complained when people flashed race maps to their old ECMs. Or when people burned cash on an OSB tune. Both keep people from buying Buell/EBR parts. I already have a map ready to flash to 08+ bikes...I'm jus interested in looking at the EBR map. If you don't like it, that's fine. No crime is being comitted, and all I'm trying to do is help out the guys with bikes that are not running well and cannot afford $250. Just like the old race ECMs, rest assured people wil continue to buy the EBR ecms.

Oh, and there is no custom software. Only adjusted fuel maps, timing maps, and a couple other parameter changes.
