I know it says in the book use AT LEAST 91 octane so is it ok to shove 100 in.
Done it a couple of times and the bike runs like a dream, even got 57mpg @ 80mph but at $6 gallon.
Wasn't sure if this will damage the engine or not.
From what i understand the higher the octane the cooler the burn so better for the engine - is that true?
Just wanted to find out what you guys in the know could tell me.
    Cheers

I can't speak for the burn temperature, but the main purpose of the octane is to prevent pre-ignition. IE, higher octane gasoline takes more heat/pressure to ignite. That is why low octane gasoline will damage a performance engine.

Wikipedia has a good write up on what octane ratings are all about.

It's not going to hurt it, but it's not going to help it either, unless you've advanced your timing and retuned the bike...

    Hover J:

How were you running the bike? Tecnically, you should get LESS fuel milage with higer octane fuel. The BTU content of higer octane fuel is lower than lower octane. Ethanol, MTBE, iso-octane toluene, xylene, and butane are the preferred octane boosters and all have lower BTU content than straight octane.

Maybe you were running it easier to see how your milage was? Try running the bike with the 91 and driving the same as the 100 tank.

Also, If it was leaded fuel, that will foul your oxygen sensor as it is platnium based. The lead will poison the sensor.

I used to run 100 in my R6 all the time, There was only one station that carried it so every time I was in that area I would fill up. The bike always ran much better and I loved the way the exhaust smelled.
