Hi guys,
My D&D slip on came in, looks pretty nice!
I will be installing it saturday morning on my 2008 XB12s. For now, I am just going to go with install the D&D, TPS reset and ride it.
When I can find a reputable dyno-tuner around VA that is setup to reprogram the '08 ECM I will open the airbox and put in a hi-flow filter then get it done.
Couple of questions I have:
1.) I plan to just disconnect the interactive exhaust cable and tie-wrap it out of the way. Do you see any problem with that, or should I remove it completely? I figure leaving it hooked up and floating out of the way would make an easier job if I have to put the original muffler back on for inspection or whatever.
2.) Anybody installed a D&D on XB12s? Looks pretty straightforward but I'd appreciate any lessons learned / tips.
Thanks for the help!
This site is great to read. I don't post much on account of being a Buell noob but really appreciate all the info!

only have input on question 1.. .
yup, you can just leave the servo in place (it will throw a code if you unplug it) and zip-tie the cable out of the way. i had mine like this for a few years until I just decided to remove everything.

If its anything like my jardine, you should set aside more time than you think to do this job. If it uses the same bracket to hold the pipes underneath, than it should be no big deal. If it uses its own, and you want to remove the original, be prepared to either cut it off, or drain the oil and disconnect your lines. You'll see what I mean if you need to do that.
As for the cable, I removed mine and put the servo emulator in. It just felt cleaner to me that way...but its more mental than anything else I guess.

Reckon I will go as planned and just tie-wrap it out the way for now, can't see as to how it would hurt anything.
As for installing the D&D, it looks like it uses the existing back bracket / band scheme ( they send a new band in the box. The front mount I think does away with the existing band and block, and bolts into the existing hole where the block was mounted. At least near as I can figure from looking at it w/o the faring removed. I thought about messing with it last night but decided to go for a ride instead. Figure if I start saturday morning early it leaves me plenty of time to mess things up and then figure them out. The "instruction set" that D&D sent with the muffler are pretty generic, no detail or diagrams.
Much like the breather reroute mod though, once I get things taken apart it should become apparant what to do. Hopefully.
Thanks for the suggestions and replies!

Question #2...
The D&D uses the factory rear bracket so no problem there. I think the instructions tell you to take the belt tensioner off but don't do that, you don't have to. I had no problems getting to the clamp with the tensioner on. I have a 06 xb9r but it should be the same.
It's gonna sound awesome

Good plan, that's what I did until I was sure I was sticking with the D&D, after I did the open air box I just removed the cable and left the servo motor plugged in to keep the check engine light at bay.

Very straightforward. Took me less than 1/2 an hour. But it was the 4th time in less than a year I changed exhausts, lol.

Thanks for the D&D experience tips 06xb9r and H&H Buells!
So was I right that, the front band hanger comes off and the D&D bolts into that mounting hole? I notice the flange on the D&D next to the header pipe connection and guessing that is the deal.
I figure it will take me more than half an hour bein the first time I am pulling the muffler off.
I got pretty slick at getting the intake cover and lower assembly on and off though, after a couple re-routings on the breather bypass mod before I was satisfied, and forgetting to put the dang air filter back in once lol.....

Another option rather than use an emulator, is to set up ECM Spy. You can turn off the interactive valve with a click of the mouse. No emulator, no check engine light.

Darkhorse, yes the front bracket does come off, the D&D bolts right to the engine case where it was. The whole procedure shouldn't take more than an hour, probably, if you take your time

On my Jardine the front bracket where the bolt goes...didnt line up properly...it was close but just a bit off. Also the little flange was hitting the bottom of the motor thus not allowing the holes to line up so the bolt would fit through. A little help from my friend Mr. Dremmel Tool and good to go

oops, didn't pick up on the year. depending on what ecm, some early '08's are compatible from what I understand.

Thanks again for all the input folks! I can't wait to hear this pipe, and I like the torque curve it produces in the dyno runs.

Just an update to close this out.
The D&D install was indeed quite simple. everything bolted right into place. Took it out and did the 3000 rev steady run for the ECM to "learn it". Runs great, sounds even greater! Definite head turner.
I haven't reset the TPS yet but probably should do that, although I don't notice any issues.
Torgue band definitely kicks in @ lower revs that before, pulls like a train. I don't notice loss in top end so much as I rarely ride WFO in any gear.
Went out for a great ride Sunday, about 450 miles. I was less than 20 miles from home and had to stop for a looooong conversation with a state trooper. I was on interstate, headed for the barn and one of those unmarked interceptors ran me down. Friggen aye!

Wow I can't believe you didn't have to reset the TPS. Mine would barely run without it. Although I did the K&N and race ecm too.
It's pretty easy to do, I believe i ended up using both clamps just to be safe.

you MUST do a tps reset and AFV reset after you swap ECM's.

The 08's dont have tps anymore and run off the crank now. So thats why he never noticed anything without doing a reset. But the 08's have nothing in programmers or ecm's yet because of the change. But my service guy said a power programmer is supposed to come out in November? anyone hear about this?
