I bought a 2004 xb12s with 700 miles on it. It was practically brand new. I now have 3100 miles on it and the tires are showing threads. I stopped riding. Could this be due to the fact they are old tires and that is why they gave way so quickly?
About me as a rider- Brand new. Learned to ride for the 1st time about 7 months ago. in the last 5 months I put on ~2400 miles. No burn outs, less than 5 times locking up the rear stopping sometimes in the rain. Why did the tires wear so fast? They are the stock dunlops. I attribute this to old age (air and sunshine) and not my riding style. My riding style is aggressive, but that probably equates to normal riding for veterans I would think. Anyways, I have the PP2's on the way. Hope these last longer or this bike is more expensive than I thought... |

| Tire Pressure may be your issue. | |

| That is a good point, does over-inflation make them wear quicker? | |

| It shouldn't, running higher pressures generally prolong tire life, although if you have reduced your contact patch and get on it a lot going in a straight line, you could be spinning up the rear causing it to wear faster... | |

I ride a pair of pilot road ct 2s, currently have almost 11k miles on them and probably almost that to go
I run recommended pressures and don't have an oversized tire on the rear before I got these I had an 190 on the back and it made it awkward in turns, had to push a lot harder because of the extra surface area to get lower the only thing about the pilot road ct 2s I don't like is that they don't stick as well as the bt-battlax 016s I had before in the rain, but for the huge increase in milleage I'm happy I do have some of a flat sport worn in because I did a lot of interstate riding (reason for so many miles), but I also have a large wheelie count on these and they seem to hold up great |

| I am going to the dealership tomorrow to hopefully get my tires taken off my bike, rubbers changed and put back on. I already have the new tires. What should be the charge for this? Bet they wont be happy I bought tires somewhere else... oops. | |

| If you buy the tires from the dealership, around $15-$20 per wheel. If you bring in the tires that you purchased elsewhere, $30-$50 per wheel..... That's just the range I have seen from about 6 places local to me with the wheels off the bike. It will be more if you have them take the wheels off the motorcycle... | |

| I brought my rear wheel into my local HD with a wheel I bought elsewhere. They charged just under $50 for a mount and balance. If you bring the bike in, I would expect to pay a good amount more, as they will charge you probably another 1/2 hour to hour of labor to take the stupid wheels off! | |

| Got quoted by the dealership here... 79 for the front, 105 for the back. That is if I bring the bike in. I did not bother asking about if I brought in just the wheels. I wont be taking my bike there anyways. | |
