After being a serial lurking on this forum for a while, I finally need some help in a few areas concerning the front brake.

Bought a 2004 XB12S this spring with 15k. The bike had a warped front rotor that would only showed its ugly face when the rotor heated up so it was missed on the test ride. My fault there. I replaced the rotor with an EBR rotor and new pads(Lyndall Gold+) 3 weeks ago. Riding last night, my front brake became a joke. Trying to stop required full hard pull on the handle and braking was still weak. Is it normal for a rotor to become glazed in 3 weeks? I took a bit of Emory cloth to the top of the rotor in the pic.

Also, I have not changed the brake fluid(next on to do list). Could this contribute?

possibly. start there and flush system, refill with dot-4, and fully bleed. you need firm full lever action to properly diagnosis if rotor is at fault. if so simply remove it and take to local machine shop who can quickly run a ball mill over it if you think it's glazed. after the fact i am no fan of lyndall pads. ebc sintered the pad of choice for XB's.

The XB brake is especially glaze-prone, often requiring frequent cleaning. I speculate it's partially due to the extra heat generated by a single large diameter disc, which sweeps faster & provides lass heat-sink, than a conventional dual-disc set-up.

Something I found you can do to help reduce the amount of glaze is to get in the habit of releasing the front brake as soon as you've come to a stop. This reduces the likelihood of brake pad material transferring to, & cooking onto, the hot rotor.

Grabbed a bottle of DOT4 fluid at the cycle shop down the street. I'll flush the fluid tonight.

I will go on the assumption you changed out the mounting hardware for the rotor when you put that on, if not, I'd recommend swapping it out for the good bits.

The lyndall pads suck. Get some hh rated sintered pads

^^ Like stated above....I'd pull that rotor, get it at least glass beaded, clean everything up good, and put a set of EBC HH's on it. Bleed/flush brake system and you should be good to go. Follow the bedding in procedure as well!!

I'll grab a set of EBCs.

I sent EBR an email for their preferred glaze removal process. I'll let you know what I hear.
