No I am using the Harley Double Platinum plugs not the Buell plugs.  I really like the Harley ones I have now they work great.  I went to Harley and asked for the screaming eagle triple platinum plugs and they didn't make them so he gave me the 1012r double platinum plugs.  I think that was the part number on them.  I can't remember and the plug boxes are at home.

I need to change mine out so if anyone could gimme some recommendations for a stock 07' XB9SX with breather re-route mod...

Fido, I've got a stock '06 XB12S with breather re-route mod and got these.  Been very satisfied with them.  I've noticed it doesn't do that "backfire in the airbox" cough near as much since I put them in.

So how does Iridium compare to platinum? Anybody know the answer to this?
Posted:  19 Sep 2008 21:36 [?]
The major difference is that Iridium spark plugs use a much smaller diameter electrode than the Platinum because of their heat thresh-hold is much, much higher than platinum's.  Meaning it can use a smaller electrode without melting from the intense heat.  It's also 4 to 5 times as resistant to wear and takes 5,000 less volts to fire than the platinums.  I've also heard the smaller electrode equals easier starts and smoother running.

Thanks Stevenc150, anyone got a part number for autozone or advance auto? Do they usually stock the ones that fit our bikes? 07' Buell XB9SX.

I doubt they stock them, I'm having trouble just finding an updated number for Buells.  But I got to looking on the Buell Website - Owners' Manuals and years '05-'07 Lightnings & Firebolts all use the same spark plug.  So I finally found a couple websites that had NGK Iridium Plugs for '05 Firebolt xb9r which should fit ours with no prob.  Here's the cheapest I found, thinking about getting me a set myself.

I have to wait until tuesday for my spark plugs...that sucks...

The only difference between a DCPR8EIX and a DCPR9EIX NGK Iridium plug, is that the (8) runs hotter than the (9) plug.  Here's the NGK "de-coder" in case anyone wants it.

FYI, some Ducati and Aprilia models use the NGK DCPR9EIX plugs as stock. in the past i've been able to pick them up from a local Aprilia dealer. most should have them in stock.

hotter plug has a longer porcelain the tip goes a little deeper in the head so the burn or heat can keep it clean on a rich running motor....plug itself does not run hotter...the length of the plug in combustion chamber determines heat range......theres no hotter running motors then the big ci after market v twins and harley motors...and they use standard plugs   harley dont make there own plugs...  champion does  .. a standard plug you can buy anywhere for a dollar and some change,,   is the same plug harley charges you 4 to 6 dollars for....if your not running a water cooled motor the softer the plug material the better....its better to start melting or wearing out a plug then a piston...and can tell you something is wrong before it happens

I stand corrected on the NGK Iridium plugs.  The DCPR8EIX is a hotter Heat Rating than the DCPR9EIX.  Great info Maybebuell.

Guy's,you can get the NGK Iridium plugs on the ASB site, plus you know they will fit your application.I don't mind waiting for them in the mail as I have to order my Royal Purple and plugs ahead of time before I do my oil change. No one carries them around here.

Weird, haven't seen too many Aprilia and Ducati dealers up here in North Dakota.  I haven't checked down by the Porche/Ferrari dealers though.  </sarcasm>  LOL
