Hey folks!! So I just bought an 09' XB12Scg from FLA, thank you Fireplug111 for setting up the deal, and I noticed if you whack the throttle at like 2-4k it hesitates and then jumps to life. Mind you this bike is perfect, bonestock, 715 miles, probably the lowest example/most perfect one in the country. I've heard this is a bit common, that you gotta learn how to "roll" the throttle on these bikes. I'm not used to that, my Ducatis don't have that lag/jump. So I'm assuming with the EBR ECM, Exhaust (either Drummer or D&D), and K&N, this will probably smooth this problem out, along with give it that extra pop it needs. Does that stupid Interactive Exhause bull**** come into play here? The bike runs amazing everywhere else, just that one instance. Any suggestions?? I'm all ears, and thank you in advance!!

I'm sure many, including myself, would disagree on the interactive exhaust being a stupid feature. It's actually very clever and practical. The only achilles heel to that system was that the exhaust had to comply with noise restrictions, which hindered some top-end horsepower potential.

Yes, our engines can temporarily hesitate if you radically crack open the throttle. There are several parameters in the ECM that can be tweaked to lessen the lag, such as the Acceleration Enrichment Duration and a few bits in the Acceleration Enrichment Config flag, and the Acceleration Enrichment table itself. But the best solution might be to just slightly alter your driving habits.

Being a 2009 model, I will assume all your sensors are operating properly and that you have taken a look at the spark plugs just to confirm they look healthy.

While it may be clever, the old saying goes, if it ain't broke..... My point was that setup is just more moving parts, cables and flaps, and when you get down to it, those moments it takes for that stuff to work, could cause the lag. Plus I'm sure not many keep that system hooked up when doing the "mods", that's why they are popular, more performance. Anyway, I understand your point about the lag, but I'm not very good with the computer, so I'd rather not mess with the tables myself unless I had a proven, detailed plan. Does anyone have an 08-10 XB12 with the "mods", and notice the difference in that lag? I'll assume so, but I'd like to hear what people are saying that did the "mods". Is there a plug anyone recommends? Again, I'm all ears, and I'll try not to hammer the throttle too much... 😊

If you can download your current EEPROM, I'd be glad to change a few of those settings and you can see if it helps. And you can run a difference comparison on the two images to see exactly what was changed before flashing it back in.

I don't know if anyone else has an image with only those specific parameters modified, but you might wait and see who responds.

About the EBR ECM, many people have had positive results with improved performance, but there are also a few who were not happy (both here and on other forums). There are also "race" maps floating around and readily available to try. I don't recommend them, but there is very little risk in having any actual engine damage by just trying one. Rather, it will either help, or cause a lot of frustration.

Perhaps you've got an intake vacuum leak, but it may just be that you're riding around at too low RPMs. These motors have long, single throw strokes that don't offer the instant throttle response of other designs, esp at low revs.

Having said that, you're right that an aftermarket pipe & EBR ECM will wake it up (along with a K&N)!

Also, when I picked up the bike and trailered it home, I drove thru a torrential downpour for about an hour. Any chance that has something to do with it? I know bikes can/should handle rain, but with that air scoop, eating a hurricane for 90 minutes.... The bog is very noticeable, and I feel something is definatly off. Where should I look for that "intake vacuum leak" possibility? I don't have the cable to pull codes, but no lights are on. Thanks again for all the help!!

Update... It got worse, so I drove I go a friends bike shop who worked for Harley for 30 years, had worked on Buell too. He didn't have the proper software to scan it so he suggests I take It to HD so they can rape my wallet. On the way there, it got worse, every 2 seconds it would bog, then come back, at any speeds/RPMs. Picture it... "Rurrrrrrr, ughhhhhhh, Rurrrrrrrr, ughhhhh, Rurrrrrrrr, ughhhhhhhh".. Like it was running out of fuel! (It wasn't) 😦 So I'm starting to think that heavy rain played tricks on a relay or something, and now only the magical HD rape computer can fix it. Nothing like finally getting that bike you've waited for, only for it to crap on you in the first 40 miles. That's why I'd rather drive the XR-1000, it's a motor and tires, my bike shouldn't need so much "brains". Any suggestions are greatly apprciated, I will be scratching my head and cursing tonight in the shop with my new paper weight. If anything pops in your head, call me, 862-881-7065!! Thank you all!!!
