Thread: O2 voltage

    Hi,

    Bike is running poor after swapping out the VR. I did work really well after completing a TPS reset, however, it is now running pretty poor. It is taking a while to start in the morning (stalling), sometimes at 5k rpm there is no torque and after stopping at the light quickly, sit is stalling. Seems to have trouble holding revs.

    I ran a session on tunerpro RT and my O2 was going crazy. This may be normal but I don't know. It was moving from 0.2 to 0.9 volts frequently.

    If anyone could have a look at the TP data log file, I would appreciate it.

    The O2 is not the problem you are looking for.

    Speaking on the O2 sensor's operation itself ....

    These narrowband (lambda) sensors the buells use are basically an on/off switch which provide a 1 or 0 for the ECM to read ... they're not like the wideband sensors in vehicles in that they provide a varying voltage directly corresponding to what air/fuel ratio the engine is running at ...

    That being said ... when your engine is running in a closed loop section of the map and is running pretty close to stoichiometric, the O2 sensor should be crossing back and forth of it's midpoint a good bit (the more often the better to my understanding) ... providing the ECM with a steady 1, 0, 1, 0, 1, 0, 1 each time it takes a reading from the O2 sensor (1 being a higher voltage than the midpoint value, and 0 being lower than the midpoint value if I remember right ... it's one or the other) ... say your bike is running really rich (and assuming 0 is the output for rich running since I can't remember right off the top of my head), it will start seeing a steady flow of something along the lines of 0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 1 readings ... and since all of those 0's mean it's running too rich, it will change the AFV to try and lean out the map a little and get back to as steady of a 1, 0, 1, 0, 1, 0 input flow as it can ... if it sees a steady 1, 1, 1, 1, 0, 1 it's basically the opposite of what I've just mentioned above ...


    On topic now ! .. Since I have probably bored to you to death ... Have you looked at your intake seals perhaps? ... i'm not ruling out the possibility of a bad O2 sensor either but it seems pretty odd for the bike to be running this badly so suddenly (unless something went wrong during the TPS reset you did ...) ... changing out the V/R shouldn't have affected the running in any manner like you've mentioned above ... :\ .... hmmm
