Thread: Speedometer

My speedometer was doing the "ol sweepin thing" and not counting miles. Replaced the sensor with a new working one...Still having the same problem. Sometimes it fluctuates, sometimes it stays on ZERO. I have noticed though, that sometimes when letting off the throttle (fully) itll move...Any suggestions? RPMs work, all lights work....Thanks

If you have a rear stand, put the bike on it. Then pull the sensor and clean it off. Sometimes crud from the trans gets on it. Also check to see if there is some chafing on the harness behind the belt cover and then pull your fly screen and check your ground to the front of the frame. If that does not solve your problem disconnect the speedo and check the pins and spray some electrical cleaner on both.

The speedo it's self is pretty bullet prof... Unless you changed the gauge face.

    Hello,

I do have the same problem on the same motocycle... I tried to remove the sensor and clean it with some of this :
Then it worked for a couple miles and does not work again...
You say I should pull of my fly screen and check my ground. How do I check the ground ?

PS : I am sorry for my poor English... I am from France.

If you replaced the sensor than I would say check your wires and ground like squid said . Bad ground or broken wire will make speedo not work right. Clean the plug end to the sensor to.

Ok thank you. I will remove the fly screen. Is there any pictures somewhere with the right cable to check ?

I put a wire from the speedometer directly up to the sensor. Nothing changed. So I bought a new sensor. I should have it by the end of the mounth. I hope it will work !
