| This may be due to the fact that the primary is geared lower on the 12 than the 9. I have heard of people changing out the primary gears from the 12 and put the ones from the 9 in it to gain that top speed. | |

I think you have it backwards Firebolt. The XB9 is geared shorter then the 12, when people do the primary swap (putting the xb9 primary in the 12) they do it to get more low end oomph, but you lose top end speed. Something like 15mph slower.
Is it possible that someone did that swap on yours already Squatty? You may want to get an ECM Spy cable and see what's going on with the computer. Look for error codes, see what your AVF is set at. Do you have any mods on the bike? What year? How many miles? |

even if the swap has already been done the bike should go about the same top speed. because then both bike would have had the 9 gears, and the lower red of the 12 wouldnt have that profound effect of top speed. there must be something else.
+1 to buellysses ecm spy cable and see whats going on. |

if you wanted top speed you should have bought a rice burner..
this thread has been posted before... http://www.buellxb.com/Buell-XB-Forum/Buell-F ... the big thing to remember is all speedos are off so unless you post a pic of your speed on a radar gun it kind of is pointless.... after all we own the corners

| you can get buells up to 150-160 with the correct sprocket ratio, you would have to do a chain and sproket conversion tho. maby raise your red line get different cams lifters maby a port job. but i c that as pointless like buddhabuell said shoulda bought a r1 or somthing | |

I don't know where you guy live, but I couldn't ever get my bike that fast. In phoenix our surface streets are too crowded and our freeways have photo radar.
I've had mine to 103, then almost got ran off the road.

not sure about anyone else on the board, but if I was to get my bike up above 130 I'm sure I would not take the time to look down at the speedo to see that it was going 138. Be very difficult to tell with the needle and rest of the bike vibrating. anything over 50 and I'm focused 1/4 mile down the road, not a foot from my face

| I live in south texas and the wind wasn't blowing hard today. With this new ecm the bike really gets going quick, especially in the higher rpm's. It got to 138 like nothing and I felt a lot more there but I ran out of space. Before the ecm change I needed a lot more distance to hit that speed. I know it's not truly accurate and it's could be off by quit a few mph's but I was still hauling balls in a shorter period of time and distance than in the past. | |

| xtreme6669 - I've ridden with you before, I don't doubt that for a second. I feel like a 90 year old woman when I ride with you. Although, I did bring my wheel up a few times with you Friday night when I was trying to keep up. | |

Here's the latest picture of the beast. Mods = Firebolt top triple, Drummer. K&N, EBR ECM, and rear fender eliminator I recently did myself. |

| The crossroads were definitly cheaper but I liked this look and feel a lot more. I paid about $300 total. I didn't look for any deals, I just went to the dealer and bought all the parts. The new master cylinder came off the XBRR. If you want to use the stock one then you'll have to use some spacers between the fairing and and the top triple because the square master cylinder won't allow you to bolt up flush. If you're interested I'll get the write-up I went off of and the part# to the master cylinder. | |

| thanks KB I'm very interested. I won't buy from the dealer but I'll start slowly collecting the ingredients. I'll probably keep the crossroads for spare just in case bars but i think i want the narrower firebolt ride position. | |

Here you go. the only thing I really did different was drill and tap my top triple where he placed rivots, you'll see. The master cylinder was a little hard to find but I contacted the owner's son of Ray price HD/Buell in raliegh because he races buells and was able to locate the part from me because it's not on HD net. Maybe you can get one from EBR now. |

| One thing I forgot. I drilled holes in the sides of my fairing and ran the clutch cable and throttle cables behind the windscreen so they would poke right out into their proper positions. | |

| The only reason i paid attention to the speedo is that my bike has been in the shop 11 times since i bought it and they cant figure out what is wrong with it that when i noticed that i was hitting a brick wall at 120mph. | |

| I've had my 07 12s to 125mph. I backed off because my turn was coming up.. It still felt like it had plenty of gear left though. The wind was crazy going that fast so I doubt I will try to go any faster anytime soon. I'll stick to the twisties :-) | |

You've gotta at least look to know what you topped out at, at least once. If you're tucked in that far the speedo should be right infront of your face anyway.
I understand the "who cares about top speed on the street" if he's just saying he wants a bike to be faster, but having a 1200 that only tops out at 120 definitely makes it sound like something is wrong. Does the bike pull strong up to 120 and then just stop, or does it start to get get weak and that's as fast as it'll go? If you're topping out 5th at the redline and it only took a couple seconds to get there it sounds like some gears were changed. If your bike slowly made it's way up to 120 and then just couldn't go any faster even if you weren't at the redline it sounds like you've got a bigger problem. |
