I have a 2003 XB9S that I just got in March. 15K. Here's my question. Is there any possible reason that it just clicks when I try to start it other than bad grounds? (Just cleaned all the grounds under the seat and under the airbox cover.) Battery is ok. Any help...... GREATLY appreciated!!

Is it possible that there's some bad grounds in the starter?

    Thenks!!!

Have you actually had the battery tested? Tested under load? Sounds to me like your battery isn't as good as you think it is.
If the battery is nice and good as new then I'd check out the starter. Make sure connections and grounds are good at the starter.

    sound advice as usual.
fairly easily resolved by using either your garden tractor or vehicle(motor OFF on vehicle if doing this-tractor motor ON)and jumping your bike. starts fine now? fault lies with battery. no start? fault lies elsewhere

We threw in a new battery. Still clicks. Think its gotta be the starter then?

Even a "new" battery can be bad, or weak, or from China. I would test it.

Scoop: The bike was hooked up to a truck battery and still clicked... It does start, but only every couple tries. So it'll click a bunch then start. Drained the battery down good but like I said, it got hooked up to a truck battery and still clicked/started poorly.
    .

    Thanks!!!

Have you check all the fuses relays and grounds?
Looked at all the connections on the bike to make sure they were good?
If so, then maybe your starter needs to be replaced.
Look into service manual for test procedures before going out and buying a starter.
Keep us posted on your progress.

New ignition/starter relay. Checked and cleaned all the grounds, still doesn't fire right up. Thinkin' it could be the solenoid.

have you simply tried to read any codes first? jump pins #1 and #2 in the dongle next to the ecm. turn the bike on and read the flashes of the CEL. any codes? solenoid wire connection secure and clean? move on to downloading the manual from buellmods.com if you haven't already...go to chapter 5, pg. 5-4. start there and see where it leads to.

Dad's not comin home tonight...... cant check the codes by myself....... just from browsing the web, I hear similar problems coming from a dysfunctional voltage regulator, from what I understand this part is responsible for sending power to all the components... could that be why it just clicks? Thanks!
