It looks like a bird crapped on my bike!  There is fluid on the airbox cover.  it doesnt smell like gas.  It doesn't look like oil.  I thought something was blasting out of my aibox but the airbox is dry inside.  On closer inspection I think there might be a brake fluid leak or clutch cable leak and its spraying on the bike.  So heres my question(s)...what is it?  anyone have this problem?  How do I fix it? And how do I get this stuff off the airbox?  it seems to nearly stain it a whiteish color and wont just rub off.  please check out the pics!

Not being a smarta$$, but it looks like it might be bird crap.  Brake fluid might leak out of the resovoir and hit there, but doubt that it would turn white and stain like you described.  Bottom pic kinda looks like normal road grime.

What about road salt?  Lots of that around here anyway.  If it splashed up on your bike and it was wet, you probably wouldn't notice it until it dried and turned white.

Hey Monkey, when was the last time you washed your bike?  Could it be unrinsed soap showing itself agian?
Posted:  09 Mar 2010 01:11 [?]
Lol! No no no..its not bird shit and I'm in socal so no road salt, and I better not be semen! Lmao! Its just on right side only. This has happened twice and the stuff doesn't come off. Would brake fluid do this? Its clear at first and then when I try n clean it turns white. A lil csi on part was lookin at splatter pattern n think it might be comin from brake line then it hits frame n airbox when wind hits it. Can't get it off. Haven't noticed any ride difference. Mods are breather reroute, d&d pipe, headlight mod, tail section redone. Please help! At this point I'm willin to taste! Tho not sure what brake fluid, bird shit OR semen tastes like!

Well, if it's brake fluid it's corrosive, that'd explain why it's not coming off.

Have you checked your brake fluid level?  if you're still full after all that crap on your bike it wouldn't be that.

What about fork seals?

what all is it on. kinda looks like someone threw something on it.
Posted:  09 Mar 2010 02:05 [?]
have you drove through any road constructon lately . like where they cut concrete (with cutters blades and water , could be the run off water from that.) for repairs and resurfacing.

Ill check the brake fluid n see what the levels r...good idea ty. Midnight. I thought it was just on the airbox but looks like a little on the frame. I was thinking about fork seals too. How do I know if the seals are bad though? Ill go check em.

Ya....its brake fluid....now I gotta find the leak. Ty all!
Posted:  09 Mar 2010 03:30 [?]
My guess its either the resovior cap or a brake line close to the top

Do you have water in your clutch cable boot where the adjustment is made? is it consistent or is this the first time?

kinda bittersweet this happened to you. i thought i was the only one. the exact same thing happened to me and ruined my cover. i just tightened that line that goes into the little box on the right and that stopped it. that stuff wont come off sadly.

Maybe I'll go check mine before it happens to mine, too. Thanks. God only knows if airbox covers will still be available when it happens to me.
