When i try to start my bike i get only alot of chattering. the engine doesn't try and turn over. lights work fine. Used to be that i could hold the clutch in and that would stop the klaking. could it be a starter problem? any ideas would be helpful

Check the ring gear on the clutch basket to make sure the teeth are all in good condition. Check the starter clutch and armature assembly and make sure that the teeth inside arent chewed up. Thats about all I can think of without looking at it. Let me know if you need more help...

start with the basics. check the battery. maybe weak.
put a trickle charger on it or replace with a new one.

If you pick up a service manual, its worth its weight in gasoline, thats for sure.
