My Buell's battery is slowly dying, takes a second or two before it starts to crank the bike on most occasions. The cheapest genuine battery from Harley is about £135 ($226) discounted from £155 ($260). I understand I need a Gel battery and that the terminals need to be flush on the side for the + - contacts to fix too. All batteries on eBay do not have flush contacts as far as I can see plus all non genuine batteries seems to offer around 14ah compared to Harleys 19ah output.

My batter has lasted 5 years on constant charge when parked and I've done just over 10,000 miles. Should I buy genuine or buy cheaper alternative? Looking around I'm tempted to stay with the genuine Harley Battery.

Hi devonbiker, when I was in the UK I used MDS for a heavy duty Yuasa battery for my Honda Dominator.
I just searched "Buell" on the MDS website and got this Buell battery search I think you get a good battery for a good price compared to your HD dealer prices.

I got a battery from Harley back in August and it was $125, although even brand new it hesitates for half a second before turning over.

doberdann1019; but mine feels like the battery is dying. I have a battery crank tester and when cranking it's in the amber which is a sign the battery is on the way out. Your HD batteries are def cheaper.

Thing that puts me off with all the other batteries out there is the amps. Even on the MDS website, looking for the only Buell XB12ss battery, their offering is only a 12ah battery whereas the HD battery I believe is 19ah. That has to make a difference. no?

Yup, our XBs are one of the toughest applications for any motorcycle battery. They vibe, they have high CCA requirements, they route heat over the battery, & they run the cooling fans after the bike's switched off. A cheap battery won't last.

does your battery have 19aH printed on it as all the Buell specs in the workshop books I have all say 12 VDC/12 AH/200CCA for the battery?

Hows about this web site for an uprated battery Buell battery and this one for the spec of that battery battery specs
