Thread: differences between....

  1. #1
are the differences between the lightning models s,ss,scg, all cosmetic or are there others?

S model is the "base model" that I will use to compare the other models too.

SS model is a long model. It is somewhere around 4" longer if I'm mistaken and holds another 1/2 gallon fuel. Ride height is the same as the S model

SCG model is the low model. It rides lower and closer to the ground. Not only is the suspension a little bit lower but the stock seat is cut down more. Many find this the more visually appealing bike. Fuel capacity is the same as the S model.

As far as my knowledge goes, those are the differences. Numbers aren't exact, but should be close!

I thought the Ss was taller? I always thought the inside fork tubes looked longer when you compare the fork seal level against the top of the fender.

The SS's also have a bigger tail/seat. I did a detailed write up once similar to FFJake's, but I have no idea what thread it was in anymore.

I was just curious. I have a XB9R and it seems a lot of users on here have the lighting.

A lot of us do, but there's definitely no shortage of firebolts.

That's because you're posting in the Lightning forum :p

    juuust kidding.

The firebolts basically are all same- only the 9 and 12 motors really differ.

The Lightnings do have a few more options:
9S and 12S are the base models
    9SL and 12SCG are lower
12Ss, 12STT, 12X and 12XT all use a slightly larger frame and longer wheel base. They all sit higher than the "S" model. X is highest, then XT, then STT and Ss.

The mechanics of the bikes are roughly the same.

    upthemaiden -

I was unaware of the different forks! I thought our riding position was high (forgot to mention that in my 1st post) simply due to the seat, but I don't know much! You could very well be correct in what you say.
