BPG, I have a 2005 xb12r which I am most pleased with. I have done the airbox delete kit and the "Captain Ron" mod to my stock muffler. I also wrapped my header with copper header wrap. I am very happy with the sound of the bike now, now too loud but not too quiet (other than the slight loss of low end torque). I went to my local dealer wanting the ECM re-mapped and was told that it cant be done without a Race ECM. Is this true? And what are my options? I felt that I didnt need the Race ECM with still having the stock muffler, but I could easily be wrong!! Thanks for any help.

You can get your stock ecm custom mapped. Not by the stealership, prolly a local dyno guys can. If that 206 in your name means your from seattle there are plenty in WA. Cost 300 bones here in Central WA and is much better than a race ecm. The guy here tunes everything every 250rpms in each gear.

I'm just right over the mountain in Glasgow. Do you know if Lynchburg H-D has the ECM Spy? I was told that Roanoke does, but I'm not to thrilled with the way they operate!

with race ECM would would have to lose your exhaust valve because the race ECM does not use it. just a little tunning to your stock ECM is the best way in my opinion, i plan on tuning with ECMspy (starting when i get off here) but would like to know if anyone on this site has used a Dobeck "Techlusion Electronic Jet Kit" it might work well with that (Captain Ron pipe)

what is your situation?
you've changed the amount of air getting in and changed the outflow...your bike is now running lean and needs a remap or a race ecm.
if your dealer says a remap can't be done without a race ecm, then he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Thanks. I made my last trip to that dealer anyways. I had the headlamps, that were recalled, installed. When I got home, I noticed that the lights were wrong. On low beam, the High Beam bulb in lit. If they cant get headlights correct, Im glad they didnt Dyno the bike!!!!

sorry, i ment SERVO for the exhaust valve, if you disconnect the servo on a stock one, american sport bike say's you need this; (cut and paste) 9313 - Servo Emulator, XB12. When using an aftermarket muffler with a Stock ECM, the servo must be left on the bike to keep from triggering a fault. This emulator makes the ECM think a perfectly functioning servo is attached. i'm thinking the race ECM does not use the servo? is this true?

The stock ECM expects an input from the exhaust servo, and will throw an error code if the servo is missing (and illuminate the dash 'check engine' lamp). The race ECM does not check for the presence of the servo. If you have access to ECMSPY, you can turn off the servo check function of the stock ECM to eliminate the error code and check light.

thank you! that's what i thought!
so the race ECM does not use the servo, which is connected to the exhaust valve via cable, and if you did this you would either have to hold the valve in a preset position (usually open) or remove it.

it's not because the race ecm has no need for feedback from the exhaust valve that you need to remove it.
if the servo is fitted, the valve works...the spec-ops & termignoni exhausts still have a working exhaust valve.
