Hello everyone. i'm a long time rider but a first time Buell owner. And first time poster.

I have a few questions and any help would be greatly appreciated. I recently got a 2006 Ulysses XB 12 X and boy this thing sounds like it's coming apart lol but according to long time Buell owners these noises are normal for a motor that is put together loose to begin with.
I guess my first question would be is this normal?
My second question is has anyone tried adding fans to the front of the scoops to push air to the rear cylinder while in traffic or stopped?
And last but not least LOL I would like my bike as loud as possible without hurting performance too much. What is the easiest cheapest way to make these bikes loud but still perform and run well?
Again any help would be greatly appreciated! You guys have been awesome in the other posts I've read so I can't wait to hear your answers.

Coming apart? I have never heard of anyone adding fans to the scoops but I am fairly new here as well. I personally run a drummer SS exhaust and it's pretty damn loud. I have heard some guys selling their drummer because it's a little too loud for them but I love it on my XB12r.

Thans bambam Probably just paranoia just typical top end chatter The clanking and tapping that everyone talks about LOL I've heard a couple other bikes that do the same thing.

I'm thinking about getting two 3 inch fans and mount them on the front of each scope wire them together and put them on a switch that I can turn on in traffic or when going really slow or stopped. What the hell it can't hurt right LOL
The drummer exhaust does sound really good think that's the way I'm going to go.

I LOVE my buell race can it is not the loudest on the market but (other than dean's) looks the best. Plus it has a very audible pop on hard decel, let everyone know I'm there LOL

Thanks eppt, I am with you, I want them to hear me coming and leaving ha ha.

Can you run straight pipes or drag pipes on these things? I heard of people doing it but I guess you have to do ECM mods or something lol. I'm guessing it's probably not good for the motor either

I definitely don't think it could hurt it but if you do end up doing it post some pics so we can all check it out. As the saying goes around here..."pics or it didn't happen" Welcome to the forum.

The rear fan does it's job and pulls air to the rear jug, if anything you could add a right side scoop to force more air. I can't remember where but I read of people trying to add fans to the scoop and it actually restricted air flow for normal driving! As for exhaust I run a D&D it's loud as hell can't hear my mother in-laws Harley over it. Dean also has a well deserved title for performance exhaust with great sound quality.

these motors leave the factory with exacting tolerances....nothing is assembled "loose". air cooled motors tend to generate more audible noises than liquid cooled. the cooling fins and their ability to resonate noise contribute to the chatter.

complete and utter waste of time and resources. that is what the ecm-activated factory fan is for.
if a cool motor....longevity...and minimal motor noise is your prime concern then add a RSS kit, avoid high temp stop and go traffic, run a premium synthetic correct viscosity oil, and add a bit of fuel across the mapping. keep in mind that extremely high revs....heat....and dirty oil are an air-cooled motor's worst enemies.
