Has anyone tried to hack the remapping key and make it usable on another bike? Is it not just an expensive flash drive? Why cant you just show the hidden files and copy the info off of one key onto a flash drive?

ok well I have an idea.... Someone needs to plug in their key to their computer, go to file options and click on "show hidden files and folders". Then copy the info on the key and post it for us cheapskates to download.

This would cut the remapping price from $320 down to $120. Is it worth it?

someone would first need to buy one

Lefox, isn't it  required to unlock your ECM? Are you implying no one has bought one?
Posted:  25 Jul 2008 11:55 [?]
you don't get it...the dealer holds the key in most cases.
Posted:  25 Jul 2008 11:59 [?]
Not if someone was to order one from ASB. I don't understand why that's so difficult
Posted:  25 Jul 2008 12:07 [?]
never ordered one through asb so, can't help you.

but i think most people would think that it would be unfair for them to pay 200$ and give it to you for free

i would say, if you want what is best for your bike and your pleasure, you will spend that 200$ extra.
and you'll also be doing the failing economy a favor

Well I guess I'll just have to buy it for myself, then give away copies after I crack it. Some one has to be the nice guy. We're all friends ya know
Posted:  25 Jul 2008 12:16 [?]
yea, you can look at it in 2 directions...

you can do it and people receiving/wanting it would say, 'you are a nice guy, thanks'

the people who would be out of a job if this is comon practice would say, 'it's because of you that i lost job, home and can't support my wife & kids'

there's always 2 sides to a coin.
for me, life ain't just about money...as long as i'm happy & having fun...i consider myself to be a lucky man

You're right. I guess my plans for a mass distribution center of unlocking keys are a bit self centered.

Just build an ecmspy cable for $40; It's cheap and legal....
Posted:  25 Jul 2008 13:47 [?]
I've looked into it, but does ECMSPY unlock the ECM for use with directlink?
Posted:  25 Jul 2008 16:54 [?]
Well, I don't believe the ECM is locked at all.  I think directlink itself needs the key to function.  I have a program at work that will not function without the usb key plugged in to the computer.

That makes sense. They're very vague in the description of the directlink key, and I'm sure the reason for their lack of details is to prevent cheapskates like me from cheating.

cheapskate = ECMSpy user. build a cable, you'll be glad you did, full control.

Dave, way to see it from another perspective. Always try to see things from other peoples perspective, it will help to tell you if your doing the right thing. I'm always trying to learn, be it geography, math, mechanics, or to be a better person. Thumbs up for moral righteousness!
