This is a double post as this was a reply in the vehicle diagnostic scan tool/direct-link ECM ...
thread. I hope this isn't a problem but I thought it would be better to start a new thread just for ECMspy because this software is just so darn cool, and FREE! All I can say is WOW! I have it working and it works just amazing. Setting up the cable, loading the drivers, and getting the software to work with it was a little work but nothing too tough. The software itself is just plain awesome! Simple, easy to use and understand. A TPS Reset is so simple. For less money than one trip to the dealer for a TPS reset you can make your own cable and do it any time you want. In addition you can reconfigure your fuel mapping and lots of other stuff. Also you can save your current mapping very easily so if you make any changes you can go right back to where you started if there are any problems. It was mentioned that a Dyno is a must but that's not exactly true. Another option is to instal a wide band O2 sensor and a logger. Then you can log the info from your TPS, RPM, Speed and O2 and make adjustments to the fuel map as needed. It is true that just making adjustments by just guessing where and how much to change can get you into trouble and fast, but there is another option besides the dyno. The thing I like about the wide band O2 setup is then you can monitor and adjust any time you need to. This is exactly the solution I was looking for. I would have bought one of the other set ups but nothing ticked me off more than the high price just for the ability to use it with only one ECM. ECM spy works with any number of ECM's and the software is free. Can't beat that with a stick! |

I thought I would mention that I have no connection to the people who came up with ECM Spy. I found out about this program from this web site and think it is just awesome. I started thinking that I may sound like I have a vested interest in getting people to use ECM spy and wanted to make sure everyone knows I do not. It's great, easy to use, and best of all the software is free! There is a little monkeying around getting a cable and connector but even then you'll only be into it for $50 or so.

I've pretty much done the same as Stevensue. Uploaded the fuel maps and TPS reset. I've played around with the fuel mapping but have not saved any changes. I have not made any mods yet and I do not have the wide band O2 installed so there is no reason for me to make any changes to the fuel map yet. If you've played with ECM Spy yet though you know how simple all of it is.

| I have heard that ECM spy can be used on a palmpilot, is this true? Is it fairly easy to use? What do I all need to make this work and where do I get it? | |

This is correct, they do have a version for the Palm. I have not tried it though. I will at some point but I haven't yet. In order to use it you need to make a cable which again I have not done yet. Using a Palm device with ECM Spy would be especially helpful because you could have it on the bike while your riding.

I too have ordered the cable and connectors for PC hook-up, but would prefer to use my Palm T/X instead, but first must find the proper cable. I have an extra ECM plug ordered in anticipation of finding a Palm cable.
I have an '08 and have been told by people smarter than me that the program as written may not be compatible unless changes are made. I think that it will be a great tool for the "home" tuner, especially if used with a O2 wide band sensor and a data logger. |

Phrogg,
What USB cable are you using? The cable posted earlier is obsolete according to mouser. Will this one suffice? http://www.mouser.com/search/ProductDetail.as ... |

Phrogg,
Sounds good and thanks for your help. I am slightly intimidated by computer/electronic stuff so it is much easier to buy one than to walk into radio shack and try to explain what I want. |

I tried this on my Uly, and wasn't able to get it to connect to the ECM. All I managed to do was get the check-engine light to flash.
Anyone have any luck getting it to work on the 12X? Thx |

| I don't think it should really matter as to what buell it is as long as it has the 4pin deutsch connector. That and if you made the plug right. | |

Buellysses,
It sounds like you are having more of a problem of getting the computer to connect. There are some drivers that need to be installed for everything to function correctly. I just built my cable and plan to try and hook it up when I get home from work. Hopefull I can get it figured out... |

I didn't build the Deutsch connector. I spliced a female serial cable into the wiring harness.
I am an electronics guy, so I have faith in myself getting it connected properly. It did take a little digging as to what the ECM referred to as RX or TX (if it was supposed to be rx-tx or tx-tx, rx-rx) As best I can tell the RX from the cable is connected to the TX of the ECM and vice-versa. (give me a break for such a stupid question, it's been a while since I was in school) I got the FTDI cable, so once I get my bike back I'll give it another shot. When I was trying it before my boo-boo I was using a cable from best-buy. I didn't know if ECMspy was specifically written for the FTDI cable. |
