Hey I have run into an issue where I may need to replace the front caliper on my 03 xb9sl (ztl 6-pot). The front brake pad retention pin was stripped the previous time the front brakes were serviced. I have attempted to get the pin out but now I'm not so sure it is within my abilities. I have tried a couple extractor bits and a no go. I will be bringing to a mechanic to see if he can work some magic.
With that said, I have purchased a used front brake caliper from pinwall cycles (the ad says from a 2009 9s - its a ztl caliper). I do not have any front stands right now so I am wondering, do I need to remove the front wheel when I replace the caliper?
Also, any tips on removing/replacing front caliper or the brake fluid change need to go with it?

you don't need front stands. get a decent floor jack, put a suitable wood block on top of jack pad, and a soft towel on top of wood block. go in from right side of your XB and engage muffler in the middle. you want your wood black to engage the bulk of the muffler so as not to put the bulk of the jacking pressure in a small area of the muffler which might dent it. gently jack up with sidestand down and the front wheel should come up off the ground first. if not, let it back down and move the jack an inch or 2 forward and try again. i never had any success trying to unbolt the caliper and wiggle it past the rotor and wheel assembly. easiest just to remove axle (turn clockwise to loosen) after removing the 2 pinch bolts and remove caliper with wheel loose.
carefully check the banjo bolt crush washers when installing new. they need to be pristine or they'll usually leak.
bleed with dot-4 fluid....NOT dot-5.
