I rotated engine to diagnose and repair the newly developed oil leak on my 2008 XB12Scg with a whole 5000 miles on it.

Appears the rear cylinder rocker cover gasket let loose. Further inspection revealed the orange, o-ring type gasket is not thick enough to provide an adequate seal on the left, driver side, rear of the rocker cover.
The groove that is machined in the rocker box appears to have been cut too deep in the corner resulting in a no seal condition.
Cooling fan is covered in oil but still functional so far.
Can't HD make just one engine that doesnt leak oil before 25,000 miles?

Sold it. And cleaned it up for its new owner.  He won't get to see it till he returns from the sandbox.

Wow this thread took off!

I really need to get myself some amsoil as well.  I'm running the Mobil 1 stuff now, but if Amsoil is supposed to quiet things down a bit, I'm all for it.

I'm going to finish buttoning her up today.

Fresh amsoil 20/50, wix filter and a billet shift shaft arm from asb. Gonna treat her to a couple hundred miles of abuse this afternoon.

Yesterday I brought my heads inside and drained out all the rest of the oil. cleaned my garage so I can fit 3 other bikes in it over the winter and close the door. going to do a bit of clean up work tonight and make sure the new rear cylinder will work/ the rear head isn't messed up. get the broken exhaust stud out of the front head.

just received a set of translucent orange panels.

also won the only bid for a set of 'voltage panels' the other day, but got advised today that i am getting them tomorrow.

i should space out my panel collection and take a pic.

I don't think I've ever seen the voltage panels...lightning models only?

Can't say that did anything to my buell yesterday, except for giving her a quick wipe down.

I have 33,000 miles and have only had to replace one headlight and one tail light. No leaks and No failures.....

Hows them rotax engines holding up BTW?

Going to change oil in both holes today. Swapping forks and rotor, to ones that don't leak and are not warped.  May clean her up some.

Put some new brushed silver Buell emblems on the tank that I got off Ebay. If interested, contact kenailane and he'll fix ya up with a set for $40! I love the way they look and they're practically the same color as the engine, so that really sharpens up the style

^^ No riding for the winter months I gather?

I reread a lot of version 2 of the tuning guide last night, hoping to start tuning her in the next two weeks (at least with the stock NB).  WB tuning to come later.

If I forget about her, it'll just put her out of her misery and my hair. She's 15 years old and extremely senile. If It wasn't for my gf, I would have put her down 2 years ago...lol

Got a new .030" top end gasket kit.  Should be fun putting her back together and tuning in the spring!
