What kind of prep work is needed to paint the side rails. I remember hearing something about paint not sticking well to the powder coat, so what needs to be done to ensure proper adhesion?  I just did the DIY cheese grater eliminator and want everything to match. Thanks in advance
Walter.

i'm pretty sure the side rails don't come powder coated but are painted. i just had mine powder coated black by a friend who owns a powder coating busniess, i did no prep work just took em' off and had them done. if you have a powder place near by you should see how much they charge(usual lot charge is about $50 to 70 bucks). the powder is super durable. as for paint, a light sand w/ 80-100 grit sand paper and a good wipe down with a tack cloth should be fine, good luck!

They are powder coated. You'll need to scotchbrite, prime and paint.

400 grit until all the shine is gone (important) then blow off and wipe down with acetone or denatured alcohol. I would use a cleaner degreaser and wash the parts first before you start. Powder coat is a plastic so you need a primer that will bond with plastics and you will be fine.

Nah any automotive primer will do. Just need to make sure all sheen is gone.

um....  almost all paints could be classified as a "plastic". It is best to remove the pc but short of that - scuff it up and create a mechanical bond.

Black looks nice to, but with the orange plastics I personally like the look of the silver better. To each his own I guess.

Thanks Thaloc, its good to finally get some positive feedback. All of these naysayers were starting to give me a complex . To them I say silence or I will crush you like a cracker over soup . Just kidding, or am I?
