i took my time so i could photo everything and write it down so i could do this write up. subtract time taking photo and writing, i'd say it took me about 2 to 3 hours (maybe a little bit more because i am a very detail-oriented tech and person & was not in any hurry) taking my time to make sure I packaged everything up and labeled them all. just go slowly so you dont mess something up or scratch your paint on the engine and frame.

thanks this is handy since one of the studs snapped on the front header mount.

need to remove headers to be able to drill the stud out.

unless you guys know of a better way...?

hey, sorry i forgot about this thread...

yeah i had to drill and grind out the stud after i snapped the cheap chines easyout in the hole...

re-tapped the hole but was just a tiny bit too big so filled it with metal cement its kinda like exhaust gun gum. not sure if you call it the same in the states.

bike is running real sweet now. check the stud after every ride and its still holding...

this writeup was a great help... followed most of your instructions to a T... only thing i didnt do was take the fan out to get to the rear stud nuts. i got a stumpy socket set with a swivel and an extender.

i'll post up pics of what i used tomorrow.

    thanks nativeXB.

thats what i did first too.
    1/4 rachet
13mm & 10mm deep socket,(cant remember which size the nuts are)
    1/4 universeral (elbow) joint
    1/4 extensions 6inches, and 2 inches long
to take off the rear header bolts, but once I got where i needed to take off the header , I couldnt get it out easy enough with the O2 sensor on, so I removed the tail & shock bolt and fan like above inthe how to to remove the O2 sensor. so i thought i would make it easiest way for most people so thats why it is explained as it is above in the how to. trying to help out people if I can. there is always a different way to do things, someone may have an easier or faster or safer slower or whatever way to do something. thats what this how-to & most of the forum is about helping and finding new or better or cheaper ways.

    great job!

    like it says;
I will try to be as thorough as possible with pics, but may have left a few small details out , if so, sorry about that just add to the thread if you have any other suggestions and Questions.

I'm going to be attempting this in the next couple of days on my Ss and wanted to ask if the amount of access through the fan hole will be the same?

Has anyone removed the headers this way on an Ss?

    Thanks, Stellio.

should be the same since the frame(fuel tank) is the same .with maybe few very small differences, but mainly the same, see service manuals.
what work or what are planning to do to your Ss. new headers, wrap, coating or what?

    Ceramic coat them silver.

I think silver headers will flow well onto the stainless Drummer muffler.

mines an 07 xb12Ss and i followed the above to a T except for the part about removing the fan...

i used these to get the rear nuts off

    1/4 rachet
13mm & 10mm deep socket,(cant remember which size the nuts are)
    1/4 universeral (elbow) joint
    1/4 extensions 6inches, and 2 inches long

make sure you use some blue tack or sticky putty on the inside of the sockets for the nuts to stick to cause you don't want to loose the nuts.

took some initial fiddling but i did get it out.

If you didn't remove the fan how did you undo the rear o2 sensor?
