As many of you know the sidestands are prone to breaking and there is an upgrade kit available for $70-$80. I just ordered the pin(L0174.4A8) for $11 and modified the sidestand. Take a 1/2" drill bit and drill all the way thru. I also had to grind a little off the backside of the stand so i could fit a clip on the pin, the stand was about 1/64-1/32" too thick. I forgot to ask about the E-clip from HD, but a standard 7/16" E-clip from any hardware store will work. See below for pics.

comparison of new pin with old

drilling out the stand, could be done by hand but if you have access to a mill or drill press use it.

view 2 of upgraded stand, you may think the metal is too thin but the new stand is the same way. HD did not change the casting as far as i could tell they just drill out the whole piece like i did.

i measured the pin in case anyone wants to make one

What else comes in the whole kit to make the price go up so high? I feel like the pin would be the biggest part, unless the new setup includes the whole new sidestand arm with the bigger hole in it.

the new kit comes with the pin, eclip, and sidestand with the bigger hole already in it. didnt really seem worth it to me.

the pin is the same for all models too. the sidestands are model specific but if you mod your own you already have the right length.

looks great! you think there's enough metal left on the back side of that sidestand that it won't get weak and crack?

i was thinking that upthemaiden. as far as i can tell the new upgraded one uses the same casting as the original. i wouldnt mind having someone who purchased the full kit measure the width on the back to verify but look at these pics.
