I spent less than 300 to rebuild my tranny, bikebandit.com has the parts. Just have to look up a harley sporster and cross reference the part numbers.
Im replacing my clutch and possibly some gears and my shift drum (the part that comes out of the primary that my linkage attaches to.)
any idea on how much for parts? dont know where to look

Ive got a few more questions I didnt see listed.
what about my gears? im not sure what ill see when the motor is open, but I couldnt get past my third gear, my shifter just got stuck. so I am thinking Ill just need a new gear and a few other things, but what of the gaskets? the guy helping me said to make sure I got them, is there a full kit somewhere? im trying not to go through harley. they ream me everytime.
Inspect the third gear area on the shift drum well before you order gears. It sounds like it might be notched or wallowed out there not letting the shift forks move past that point. There are three channels on the drum that the forks slide in to inspect. Also, check the tips of the shift forks for burring and excessive wear.
Do you know if anyone has been in the transmission before? It could also be that one of the gears wasn't put back on the shaft correctly. That will make it bind up there too. And, as I am sure you will, make sure you have a service manual there to help guide you thru. It will make a world of difference.
There are a few other things too, but this should give you a good starting place.
