the mounting holes are entirely incorrect.
both wiring harnesses are entirely too short and must be heavily modified.
if that's the case why not just buy a generic single phase VR from Sudco or K&L supply for $18 and have at it?
Just got my new 2008-2013 HD Sportster voltage regulator to replace the original broken voltage regulator on my 2009 Buell XB12 Scg. And it works! It is two-three times cheaper than original Buell VR and it is easy to find. I bought mine on Amazon. The plugs fit like gloves. The only thing you have to do is to build a bracket to attach it to the frame (the mounting holes are in another places) and extend the wires (the HD Sportster VR wires are shorter than the original 2008-2010 Buell VR wires).
Will see how it will perform in the future.

I never heard about Sudco or K&L.
The wires on stator side have the same length. The wires for battery should be extended. I'm going to use the old VR wires to extent the new stator wires. No heavy modification, just cut the wires and solder the wires from the original VR, 15 minutes work.

Sneak peak! A little bit of milling work and adapter for HD VR is ready
Just curious, what are the actual prices of the 2? Obviously we can't all mill a custom bracket, so difficulty vs. Price is an issue
Yeah I'm kind of getting that idea, I mean the sporty reg. Is a nice thought of there were no buell ones left, but at this point is it work it? I found generic ones on line that will work for cheap with some plug swapping and mount making, but is it worth it when you can buy the right one?
Alright! The HD VR has been installed. Fits like a glove.
I extended the wires using the wires from the original broken VR
Covered the soldering spots by heat shrink tubes
Wrap the wires with silicone fiberglass tube
HR VR is on the bracket
First of all installed the bracket
Installed the HD VR, connected the wires an installed the left side air scoop. Done!
I also tested the spacing, it looks like there is enough space to clear the front wheel.
