Cooters $4.89 helmet lock for XB's

So, what the heck is Cooter up to now??

I got tired of using the silly cable that comes in the tool bag because you still have to unlatch the seat, and take it off.
You are holding your helmet and thats a two handed job. String the cable around and then re-latch the seat.
Thats all a PITA especially when I've got the soft bags on it.
It's also why so many seats are ripped on the front corners

Besides, I'm old and have come back to my bike hours later... and the key is still in the seat latch

So to alleviate all those issues I made a 4" long stainless cable from scraps and attached it to a Master combo carabiner lock ($4). You could loop the stock cable through the lock instead of making one.

Bolted it to the inside of the seat rail with a 1/4"-20 1" bolt and USS washer....

And dropped it through an existing hole in the plastic pan.

The cable is tight enough that it doesn't blow around or hit anything while I'm riding
It clears the pillion pegs when they are bolted on
It clears the soft bags when they are on
Its an easy one handed clip on for the helmet

And no key needed with a programmable number lock!

    I like it!
Unfortunately all my helmets use the newer clasp and not the D-ring. Stuck with toting the helmet wherever I go.

Hmmm. You could add a D ring to the strap. I'm not much of a seamstress, but I do have heavy duty thread in my Singer

Or still bolt the stock cable on and use this to go through the face shield hole and through the stock cable:

That's what I use, one of my old gun locks through the face hole. Works like a charm.
