Found a 2003 front-end and was wondering if it would fit on my 1999 M2 frame? Thanks for any help...

All Kidding aside,
I did the same conversion, I had to have an adapter made for me that extended the frame neck lower to move the lower bearing race to compensate for the longer XB style steering head.
Some people cut the triple tree down that same amount, But I figured if I ever have to I'll have a standard neck to deal with.

Look closely and you'll see the adapter, it is about .710 difference longer, and 1.500 inches total in length, and of course used the XB Lightning Clamp that I had to modify/trim the gauge/headlight mount off to clear the faring mount for my S3.

Thanks for the info and pic.... that helped me make my mind up. I think I'll stick to what I have for now unless I get a wild hair....

Not a problem, it did change the handling of the bike by shortening the wheelbase but really changed the braking, its a one finger affair now to bring the beast to a halt, not that it was ever bad mind you.
I think I still have the dimensions around, if you ever want to have it done, drop me a pm/ or post up, I'm not going anywhere.

i did this mod but i used the tripple trees from my x1. it all fit very nicely. ill post some pictures up later if youd like to see them.

how much did it change the handling? im doing the XB fork conversion right now and cant make up my mind on using the XB triples of my X1. If i use my X1 its a direct bolt-on... but the bike gets lowered in teh front by 1.5" which causes me to use handlebar risers, which may lead to my cables not being long enough....

I an make the spacer for the XB neck no problem, but does anything else on the XB triples need to be modified? An how bad does it effect the handling?

Bened- What mod did you do? The XB fairing and XB forks or just the fairing? If you did the forks, how did you get around the handlebar issue?

The mod I did dropped the front about the same 1.5in, but I also put a 120/60-17 front tire so that dropped it another 1/2 or so. I didn't like it that low so I slid the forks down in the clamps, and gained about an inch back.

As far as handling, I don't have the turn radius I used to have (forks are closer to frame) besides that after getting the preload/compression/rebound tweaked, I have a quicker turnin, and it really doesn't feel that much different, other than the brake, that is worth the change by itself!

I did have to use the XB Lightning upper, and trim the Gauge/Headlight mount from it so it would clear my Fairing Mount.

I just did the xb forks. Haha, the handlebar issue was a PAIN! I solved it with a set of rox 2" risers. They're tilted foreward so it doesn't get the full 2" of rise, and I'm using the clubman style bars so they are quite a bit lower than stock. The stock cables fit (with slack!) I'll get some pics up when i get outta class.

bened... thanks for the pictures... That is the same route i have been planning for the past week... 2" ROX risers. I am using a set of Rethal Mini RC Fatbars though. I was worried about the cable and wire lengths and mine will be higher then yours so we will see. Guess i could go with clubmans or i was thinking a set of Apex adjustable clip-ons.

I just finished powdercoating my forks and X1 triple on saturday and in the middle of putting the front end together. My front wheel should be here the end of the week and hopefully i can powdercoat the wheels this weekend.

Your very welcome. Just a hint/ word of warning, your gonna have to be prepared to do some "trimming" both on the risers and on the top clamp( if you plan on using something like the billet one I have). At first I had the bars on the other side of the forks but when I installed the tank I found that they hit(I could only turn the bars like an inch in either direction) with the bars in front of the forks I have full range of steering, although you shouldn't have that kind of problem with the renthol bars because they would be a bit higher. I honestly think you'll have enough slack in your cables for the renthol bars...they should STILL be shorter than stock even with the risers. At least I would assume so. I'll try to fix up a picture in paint to show how the risers are trimmed.

ok as promised, heres a picture of how i had to trim the risers. the first is just for reference so you can see how they are stock.

ok, so on the far right side of the riser pictured on the right, theres a "decorative" part that stick out, this had to be trimmed to fit widthwise between the clamp and the forks, the other part that was trimmed was where the riser comes up, on that bottom bar theres a raised lip all the way around. where the clamp is the widest (on the bottom-back side) this lip had to be trimmed...

i hope that helps! it was definately difficult to take the dremel to those risers but as you can see, it doesn't show at all, and it was well worth for my new front end...
