Hi fellow buellers, i was warming up my 1125r and noticed the header pipes that come out of the head were glowing red , i took it 4 a ride around the block they cooled down to a cherry red , is this normal it gets very hot under the seat and it seems that the fans never stop .

On my 2010 xb12r, my pipes glow red with excessive idleing. Sounds pretty normal.

if your still breaking it in, the fuel mapping is trying to get used to itself. it's probably running lean.

There are only two things that cause red pipes.
1. Excessive idleing.
2. Lean running condition.

It's one or the other!

How long didnyou let it idle? Bike warm up pretty fast no real need to let them sit more than a minute or two. I tend to start the bike and maybe let it idle for 20 seconds then just ride softly for the first mike or two for my warm up.

If your not letting idle to long like stated above you may just need to give it some break on time to learn your ECM. [up]

on the 1125R, there is a specified warm up period, usually 2 or 3 minutes, but can be longer on cooler days. the instrument panel should show when the bike is warmed up, so there is no need to idle for longer than that. if the headers are still glowing, it is most likely due to it running lean like crxtasy169 said.

Glowing pipe are not necessarily lean a rich mixture will cause it more often i have found due to the un burned fuel igniting in the exhaust.
I never road my 1125 at night or dark so i never looked or noticed it glowing.
Most manufactures set the computers rich for brake in . keeps the cylinder temps down to break the rings in better.
I wouldn't be over concerned un less your getting a check engine light or over heating.scroll through the cluster and look at the coolant temp should be below 210. if it is more than that you need to look at the coolant level inside the right pod

someone did mention in a post about air pockets in the cooling system. sometimes running it with the front end up as high as possible will burp any air out. I'de go ride a 1/2 mile long 12 o'clock wheelie if I could, but since I can't I'de throw a rope over a tree branch and hoist it up and run it for a minute just to make sure, wouldnt cost anything.
Doesn't it take some pretty unholy temps. to get those pipes red?

+1 to what everyone else has said, but also check your coolant. When I first got mine, it bairly showed any in the tank. Every 1125 I have seen was very low.

I agree, too or too rich will make it run hot, excessive idling, also timing retarded will make pipes glow red, altho unlikely.

Timing way to low will make it very very hot. same is rich. Blend the two together and you get red pipes galore. Just call it cheap neon. lol

Thanks fellow buellers, i should of mentioned i had a custom exhaust system fitted, i trailered it to the dyno and had the gas analiser put on it it was running lean down low and rich up top and the co2 sensors had got them self sorted and now ...no more glowing red pipes the exhaust is a bit loud , dont know if the local revinue collectors will pass it!!!! but sounds mean.
