i have had my xb12s for 1 1/2 years and just in the last month or so i have had a problem. when i am out ridding and the bike is at normal operating temp i pull up to a stop and the idle doesnt' drop back down where it belongs. it stays a little over 2k.

Take it in to your local dealer, have them recalibrate the TPS (throttle position sensor). It costs one hour labor at the dealer. What they do is bring it up to 315 degrees, shut it down, zero the TPS voltage, reset it to between 5.2-5.8 volts, then they start it back up and set the idle at 1100rpm.

That should take care of your problem. Unless you have a intake leak or something mechanical.

Old post but thanks to the search function...
Im having this same exact problem. Just bought the bike a couple days ago and havent had much time on it.
Is there any other way to fix this other than take it to the dealer?
Thanks [up]

azbuell,

Back off your idle just a wee bit. If the idle is set too high, it will hang like that. Set it to 1000 rpm or just a smidge below (after the bike is up to full operating temp) and see if it clears up. Try this before spending any money. This is common. [smirk]

The idle adjustment screw behind the ram-air scoop on the left side of the engine, my '06 did the same thing after I first got it home. I adjusted it to just over 1000rpm and no problems since. :D[up] Here's a link to explain further. About halfway down the link:

So I tried this...no luck. Adjusted the high idle to 1000RPM and it still sticks at 2k when its warmed up. If I dont clutch and "force" the idle down..it will go and stay at 1k RPM while sitting still. (ie...downshift while slowing down clutching out when bike is below 2000RPM)
Hopefully all that made sense. May have to visit a dealer :(

Horseplay, try adjusting idle after the bike is fully warmed up by taking a short ride or something. If not, may need a TPS reset via dealer or ECMSpy.

Yeah thats what I tried. It doesnt idle high until the bike is warm. I rode for a good hour or so before I adjusted the idle from around 1150 to 1000. Seems I still have the same problem. :( ...oh well..hopefully its just that and an easy fix with the dealer
Thanks

Try setting it to just under 1000. 1150 was definitely too high and would likely have caused a high-idle "hang".

Also check your throttle for proper free play and that your throttle cable isn't binding up. If your throttle adjustment isn't correct or it's binding up, your TPS reset will be off, too because the throttle plate can't close completely.

Mine hangs high at 1000 so I have to set mine at 950 to get it to drop.

azbuell, did you ever find out what the problem was?
I'm having the same issue. I just reset the tps. I've tried lowering the idle. Nothing seems to work. It's not until the bike gets hot that it hangs at about 2K.
My bike is an 04 xb12r. Micron exhaust, race ecm, k&n filter

Yeah, my 2007 XB12r just started doing the same thing. Would love to know what's going on and see if I can fix it before sending it to the shop. Did anyone fix there problem? I know that was a long time ago lol

Have you tried what they said above, most things can be done without going to dealer

No not yet. It just started yesterday and I'm looking into it today. Seeing where to start from. I have seen that there are a few things to try. Just wondering if any of those things worked for anyone

also try testing to see if the intake is leaking, by squirting carb cleaner all around the intake on both cylinders. Please report back, this may help others in the long run trouble shoot there stuff.
