The longer I have my XB12R, the more I love it. I've put off installing the race kit because I have no problem with my XB12R as it is. But yesterday was the closest I've truly come to being pinned to a barrier by some oblivious a-hole. So, obviously the race exhaust is louder, and I think thats a good thing. My friends have told me since day 1 that they can't hear my bike over their exhausts or even from the car. I'm wondering how important the race map is, as performance for me is not an issue. I don't want to lose reliability, mileage, or anything else. Frankly, right now, all I'm concerned with is it being louder. Thoughts?

If you have the race kit, there's no reason to not put it on, being made by buell, means the reliability should be maintained if you map it correctly. Otherwise you could just sell me your race kit for a nice low price

Do it! If you are like me, you will have a blast working on your own stuff and then the satisfaction of a job well done and a louder bike:D[up]

thats gonna be one expensive horn, never insist on your right of way and never underestimate the carelessness of other drivers.

thats gonna be one expensive horn my friend

Haha, yea but the money is already spent. Everything is just sitting in boxes waiting to be installed.

If you have the true race kit...race pipe, K&N and "FOR RACE USE ONLY" ECM, then I dont know what you are waiting for!

Reliability is great with the race kit. I had an 03 with the race kit that had 28,000 miles when I sold it. And the map wont be an issue either if you have the race ECM.

I have the race exhaust, K&N, and plan on using ecmspy for the map. I have a spare ECM for this, just in case.

ETA: The reason I've been waiting is I'd rather be riding when I have the time. :)

You will still (and always) find that not enough of any exhaust sound is projected forward to alert other drivers of your presence. You still have to ride as if you were invisible, assuming that no one, I mean no one, sees you and your bike. So set up your race kit, have fun, but be alert. The world needs more lerts.

I have a hawk, my favorite thing to do when I notice a driver not paying attention is ride right next to them, down a gear from where I should be just staring at them. It works best for people on the phone, I know they can not hear a thing.

Do the Race exhaust! I am jealous, although I LOVE my hawk with his custom map.

I LOVE my hawk with his custom map.

Not to thread jack but what map do you have? What is your bike? I have a custom map from Randy but I'm not sure if it's ideal? I wouldn't mind trying something different...

When I had my race pipe I ran it with the stock air filter and emc with no issues at all. That may be an option for you till you get you ecm tuned.

I also ran my stock ecm and filter with the hawk pipe from August through until winter. No issues aside from some minor decel popping. I just got my ECM setup about 2 weeks ago, but now I've gotta wait at least a month before I can get outside to try it. If you just want the noise than toss the exhaust on, it only takes 30 minutes. Once you've got that on wait for a rainy day and do the ECM and filter. Might as well get the full benefit out of it.

I thought about the race mods for my Firebolt. Then I saw the dyno results. Big payment in midrange for four horsepower up top. I ride mountain roads so it doesn't make sense anyhow. Me, I like the quiet exhaust; as it turns out cops like the noisy ones.

I wanted to get race exhaust for my 1125 but $1800 is not doable for me.

HIDs are your best bet to be noticed. I keep my brights on at all times and when i pull behind someone i usually float side to side a few times before i settle into my spot in the lane. i am also a fan of keeping traffic behind me. that works too.

Well, keeping traffic behind me sounds good, but dont fly by!
