will a ulysses tail/seat fit on a firebolt

I don't know for sure but by looking at pictures and design I don't think it would with out some work. IMO it would look ridiculous.

No the Uly and lightning long frames are different then the xbs's and firebolts.

The top mounting points are wider on the Uly.

I've thought about just getting the frame and seeing how close it was if I could find something cheap

I have done the opposite. I put a firebolt tail on my lightning long. I had to cut off the top mounts and machine wider ones.
In your case you PROBABLY would just need to make spacers. I have no first hand experience though.

The Ulysses and the XB12SS are the 2 closest.
My wife's SS has a Uly tail on it for bags and my daughter (as passenger). You can even keep the SS foot peg brackets but if you want to mount the Hepco-Becker hard bags then you will need to mount the Uly footpeg mounts.
