I picked up my Uly about a year ago bone stock with only about 2500 miles. No mods to speak of other than the dual headlight and an XM Radio (both done by me). I've ridden about 60 miles a day in fairly heavy traffic for about a year now and loved ever minute of it.

A few weeks ago I noticed that it wasn't idling well. It would die a few times at startup before running OK. I read up on the idle adjuster screw and that seemed to fix that problem for a bit.

Over the last few weeks though I've had an issue with losing power. This tends to happen when cold (california summer cold even). I give it plenty of throttle and the RPMs stop going up at about 4k and there's no torque whatsoever. Feels like a scooter and tops out at 65 or so. After riding in traffic for about 40 minutes after work I seem to get the mojo back. Throttle response comes back, RPMs go up, all is good.

Changed from stock to Iridium plugs...no help.

Thinking it could be a clutch issue I read the service manual and did an adjustment (took about 5 of em) and no dice. Before I tear open the primary to see if the clutch is fried I thought I would check for a little advice.

I picked up the ECM spy cable and dowloaded the software, so I'm ready to go there if needed. I just need a little ehelp on where to start.

Mods done recently (after problems started)
Plugs
Breather reroute
Opened Air box
K&N filter

Sorry for the ramblifng post, but I know you guys like more info.

tps reset wouldn't hurt, but i would check your wiring & your coil.

the coil could be a good bet, if there's a small crack, condensation would cause your problem.

Are you talking about plug wires or harnesses?

What sort of checking of the coild would you suggest? Visual, volt meter? Shoul I just read the shop manual?

some of that seems familiar for me too
dying a couple of times at startup (not always, from time to time) - yes.
loosing power for no reason & then babam & everything is ok (also from time to time) - yes.
I continue to look after these thing until it will be absolutely annoying. I have thoughts about clutch issue but understand it is not (as you mentioned).
and thank you for idle adjuster screw advice.

Riding in heavy traffic could have fouled out the plugs. It may not hurt to change those out.
