I believe these were shown to just be a resell of sliders from a BWB board sponsor. Bought cheap and resold for a profit. Plus its an old post.

These spools are $5 at Harbor Freight and the all thread and all thread nuts are less than $12 dollars. I did these myself in less than 30 minutes fo less than $20. If someone is selling them for 50 dollars they are making a killing. I someone wants to see the parts let me know and I'll pull them off and take some pictures in the next day or two for you.

Thanks for the tip.

I've seen those spools at the local HF but didn't think about applying them this way.

I would assume they would have to have some kind of neck on them to avoid harming the swingarm with the bolt threads, or I could find some kind of sleeve bearing that will fit.

I'd appreciate any info that might save me buying the wrong hardware and making multiple trips to the hardware store.

Did you use the 8mm or 10mm spools?

I would be really appreciative if you could possibly post a link to the ones you are talking about.

I'll take them off and measure tomorrow. Nothing hits the swing arm, it all pulls up to just the axle nice and clean.

and

Looks like the 10mm ones have a neck on them and the 8mm don't.

Well here ya go guys and gals, this is the set up for the Harbor freight 10mm lifter spools. You will need:

10mm spools from harbor freight
2-allen bolts 3/8 "x 1 3/4" ( the size of hex is 5/16")
1- 12' section of 3/8" all thread cut to about 11 3/4" long
2-3/8" all thread nuts
Red lock tight
WD40 or lithium grease

Lock tight 3 out of 4 connections, leave one without lock tight. You can see the one I left without it in the photos it's the only one that comes apart, holding everything together nicely. Spray everthing that goes inside the wheel with either WD40 or lithium grease to prevent rust.
This makes cleaning the wheels 10 times easier, enjoy!

Thanks a lot.
I've already got the 10mm spools and I'll see about getting the rest of the parts shortly.

I'm thinking of substituting something lighter for the threaded steel rod.

Maybe an unthreaded aluminum rod and some epoxy?
Maybe even a carbon fiber rod, although I don't believe that that is very strong torsionally so torque could be a bit fiddly.

I would be worried about anything but a steel rod in case you went down. Your really not going to save that much weight anyway.

Does this only work for the rear?

Not sure if it will or not will try soon and let you know.

I've got everything I need to complete this .
I'll need to measure and hacksaw my 3' length of threaded stainless rod. I may have the patience to do this later today.
I may also get drunk and watch football.
We'll see.

I see no reason why this wouldn't work on the front as well, although the diameter of the hole is smaller so smaller hardware might be needed.

I think the diameter of the front axle is exactly the same. The only difference is the length. I haven't measured them, but the ones I currently have were made out of cheap skateboard wheels and on the side of the axle where the tools goes in it just happened that the fake plastic bearings I pulled out of the skateboard wheels were the perfect diameter to fit inside the 7/8 hole to keep the slider centered. I used it on the front and the rear.

I may do this, I like my skateboard wheels, but I don't really know how much the soft rubber would do, and the nuts I used actually stick out past the end of the rubber anyway. These might look a little cleaner once they're on, plus I could use the rear stand on them if I wanted instead of a rod through the axle.

Only question about the ones above. It looks like the threaded connector piece was tightened and locktited onto the spool, and the whole thing was tightened onto the threaded rod. Wouldn't it be better to locktight the connector to the threaded rod and then just tighten the spool on? It would keep it from spinning and leaving marks on the axle. I may try this out next time I am by a HF and see if I like them more than my current setup.

New Harbor freight just opened across the street. Going to have to check this out.

Across the street?? I'm so jealous. There are 3 in the general area, but none of them are even the slightest bit convenient to get to, so I only ever make it if I really need something.

The hole in the front axle is a smaller diameter.
I know this because I have 1 rashed front slider and 1 rashed rear slider.
I can't make a pristine front set out of the remainder.
The rear ones are too big to go into the front axle.

PS.

Got drunk and watched football.
Did not cut threaded stainless rod.
Better luck tomorrow maybe.

I was in the same boat. closest harbor freight was 50 miles, then on my way to work I see the new sign! I said to my wife.....oh look a harbor freight!" She didn't know why I was so excited and doesn't know what it is... I think I'll keep her in the dark as long as I can.
