I had never ridden a bike before so it a whole new world for me. I deffinatley have some plans for her durring the winter inluding a new color scheme with alot of powdercoating, and possibly a turbo setup, so I will pist pics as I go. But anyways here are some pics.

Thanks guys. I think I will do the tail lift when those $30 come back in stock. The windscreen is just painted silver, the original owner painted it and I just redid it when I chopped it.

Looks good, like the tail swap and low profile front blinkers

Wow, I love that tail. I have a firebolt and I have thought about it many times. My girl says no but man it gives the illusion of an extended swingarm. I love it. Im going to show her these pics. That is your stock swingarm correct?

Yeah its the stock swingarm. I have an SS swing that I was going to use but I just decided to keep the stocker and keep the short wheelbase.

Looking great! I really like the R front / S tail combo. And - removing the passenger pegs and brackets cleans those lines a LOT. Wish I could remove mine (nope says my daughter ;-)

Does the windshield do much at all with it cut down like that? I'm half tempted to slowly collect the parts to put an xbr front end on my xbs, but it would only be worth it if I actually got some wind protection out of it. I get absolutely none out of the current flyscreen and wouldn't mind this for a change sometimes.

It would be nice if the firebolt headlights just plugged right in. Anyone does the conversion that can say anything about that one? Not sure if the stock bars would clear the new front end either but it would be worth a shot!

I have never rode a lightning, but I can bet that the chopped widscreen is not much different, but I just tuck if I need to if it gets real windy, but it doesn't bother me near as much as the huge obnoxious stock windscreen did lol.

how did you cut your wind screen down? is it a clean cut?

Is that a Voodoo pipe?

Glade21

Yeah it is chopped, I used a jigsaw with a fine blade and it made a very clean cut. I fabbed up the pipe myself. It is a stainless magnaflow muffler, and I made the fairing mounts for it too sand it's rock solid, and sounds f-ing awesome, really deep and mean but not too loud.

well it can't be any worse than the lightning flyscreen. The wind is actually worse if I tuck than if I just sit upright with my head as high and as far back as possible.

Yeah, at least the bolt has more aero even with the chopped screen, but I was cruising 60-70mph today with no issues, just when there is a heavy wind do I notice it.

How is the drop pegs with the Firebolt bars? I rode a Firebolt and it was hard on my wrists compared to my Lightning. Just thought the drop pegs might take some of that pressure off.

I have the drop pegs on my and i really didnt notice any difference on my wrist but more with my legs, since you are still sitting on the seat at about the same angle it just relaxes your legs a bit

The pegs were on there when I got it, and the whole bike is very comfortable, except for longer rided my throttle hand goes numb, don't know if it's because of the bars or what but it sucks lol.

Thanks man, I really like that pic too.

Just got the oil and primary changed, tightened up the chain, and ready to go for a ride. I decided to wait to do the belt swap till this winter when I have the bike torn apart for powdercoat. I also ordered a 2010 right side scoop and scg front fork springs so I just need to come up with something for the rear and I will be set.

You've convinced me, I started browsing ebay for the parts to put a firebolt fairing on my 9s. The fairing, fairing stay, headlights, and windscreen are all I technically need, right?

Glade21
08-30-2010, 03:41 PM
Yeah man, at first I wanted to do a full lightning conversion, but with the tail, it grew on me and I love the combo. I think thats all you would need, and also the wiring harness I would imagine, since the ecu is in the front.

BTW this winter I might try an trade for a CR and do the lightning tail or a full custom tail with the bolt front end and either custom scoops or the full fairing as the elephant ears don't rock my boat.
