It depends on the tire itself, I have a 180/55 on my S3 with less than 1/4 inch of clearance to the belt, but I have seen 190's mounted up. 200's I think would be pushing it.

You could always run a 190mm this time round and if your comfortable with the clearance next time you get a rear tire go up a size. Figure I go through a rear tire once a year so just see what you think of the 190mm and go from there [smirk]

ill let you know... im about to put a 190 on my X1... hoping it fits.

Do you have PM wheels? The PM wheel is 5.5" wide, the cast wheel is only 5" wide. Ill be using a XB wheel that is 5.5" wide.

180/55ZR/17 works great on my 99X1!

200/50 17 is smaller than 190/55 17

.50 x 200= 100mm

.55 x 190= 104.5mm

.55 x 180= 99

the 190 rubs on my firebolt swingarm but not the 200 ;)

You lost me on that... the 55 and 50 is the aspect ratio. the 180, 190 and 200 is the section width. It's 200mm wide and the side wall is 50% of that. a 200 is 200mm wide unless the rim pinches it and thus narrows the tire and that's probably the case with a 200 that doesn't hit where a 190 does.
