Well i have an 05 xb9sx with about 12,000 miles on it and im getting ready to drop the engine due to an oil leak coming from the rear cylinder base. while i got the motor apart to change gaskets i was wondering what the most cost effective way to get a little more power out of it. Right now its mostly stock just jardine exhaust open air box and breather re-route. Planning on getting the ecm cable and putting a race map on it after this. Ive never rebuilt a Buell or harley motor before. Does porting help much? Also what about cams? I plan on atleast putting new rings on. Has anyone used the 1050cc big bore kit from NRHS? That doesnt seem like too bad of a deal for $700. Is it worth it? Thanks for any input

Theres not much you can do to make the heads better, but "theres no replacement for displacement".

I've been told that a decent cam makes a big difference along with a second o2 sensor and some time on the dyno...

Try out the 1050cc kit and let me know how it goes. [up]

I think I'm just going to enjoy mine until I see someone selling a nice xb12 I like, and see if they'll hold onto it long enough for me to sell mine.

I put an exhaust on mine, and I have a K&N waiting until I can get the race map put on this week. I'm hoping that will give me a little boost to help things out. Can anyone comment as to how different the 9 feels with an exhaust/filter/map?

Yea im thinking im gonna save some money up and get the 1050 kit. that makes me think though another 500 bucks and i could get the 1200 big bore kit. hmm

How much faster is a xb12 than a xb9 anyways? the 12 has i think 10 or 15 more horsepower. I just always wondered how much different they are since ive never ridden one

@upthemaiden

Its almost a night and day difference between a completely stock xb9 and a KN/Pipe/map.

I just got done talking to a guy at NRHS. He states that the best HP for the xb9's can be made with the stage 2 light bolt on kit. It will give ~20 more whp but it costs 3k. The 3k includes redshift cam's. With just the 1050 kit he said that it would make ~10 whp and that it was 1.5k

so for 10 more hp it doesent seem worth it to me

Does anyone on here actually have the NRHS kit installed?

Dallas- glad to hear it! gives me something to look forward to. I may have the map/filter on as early as tomorrow night, if not thursday. It would be really nice to be satisfied and not feel like I need to trade up to a 12 eventually.

and extra 3k doesn't seem worth the power, $1.5k doesn't really even sound worth it for the 1050 considering what it would cost just to get a 1203. The only real benefit in my mine to bumping up the size of your motor is to get power but keep the light weight and small size of your bike, but in this case the 12 is the same size as the 9, plus it barely weighs any more, but it really seems like an upgrade is more worth your time than a kit for your motor.

yea i'm probley just gonna throw a new set of rings on it and new gaskets and call it good.

for 3k you could almost buy a xb12,and not have to mess with the 9.The extra power, and the gearing is a lot better for interstate riding.

The kit i was looking at was only 700 but i think ill just throw some new gaskets in and stick with the 9. If i get another bike it will definitly be a 1125

hi,im new to this and wondered if anyone has a race ecm for a xb9sx 2008 for sale?
can anyone help?

i was told that the xb9 will push 108bhp with race ecm and race pipe?!!!

That would be nice but it sounds a little extreme. It makes 92 at the crank stock, so a 16hp bump would be a lot. If they meant 108hp at the wheel, well, that's just crazy. Good luck with it though! I'm currently waiting to get the race map put on mine and am hoping for good things!

yea i would doubt that too. the big bore kit only gives you 10 more hp. I'm getting ready to order my ecm spy too so we'll see how much difference it makes

the best mod is the white wire, don't cut it pull it out and tape it up. no cost, and i have noticed a good jump in lowend. it is covered several places in site. old racer n3

yea all i did was put new gaskets in the motor and put it back together. got a race map on it now and its running pretty good. ill have to search that white wire thing you talking about

i had an 05 xb9r 14000 miles i want more power too. so i replaced the flywheels with the updated. 1203cc flywheel because the older flywheels have problems around 20000 miles and i kept the 9 gearing. the bike is super fast off the line now and is hard to keep the nose on the ground.

gasket kit 150.00
flywheels 500.00
pistons 200.00

so for 150.00 more dollars yourr bike will scare the crap out of you.

so basically u just went to the dealer and ordered a stock 1203 flywheel? what year does the updated start?

the best mod is the white wire,

I pulled my white wire a while ago and didn't notice any difference. I plugged it back in and I'm going to wait until I have the race map on my bike to try pulling it again. Maybe you have to have a new map for it to do anything? Mine's also a 2003, maybe it only work on the newer ones?
