I'm sure there are also aftermarket "kits" you can buy as well

The RH air scoop helps. Don't know here you live flash but it helps a lot here in Western Australia. Have a Uly myself. Good luck.

uk riders with this problem can get the header pipes ceramic coated by a company in london zircotec
this will remove almost all thr heat reasonably priced to at: £40 per foot bases on 2" pipes contact; peter.wyman@zircotec.org.uk this should also reduce fan running time

Lift the seat and place a piece of inner tube where front of seat and frame meet. Also wrap headers.

Try this, the Ulysses has a great Kit for that bike. Usually the Dealer will be able to get it for you. The Kit comes in a Complete package for that Bike. It's called the Ulysses Comfort Kit, it comes with 3-parts. The right side scoop/ the Fan cowl/ the right side REAR header Shield. about 100. bucks for all three parts give or take a few Dollars where I bought mine at the Dealer. This was completely Designed for the Ulysses Bikes for more cooling and Your Right Thigh NOT so hot it burns you as so to speak.American Sport Bike is also a place to get the Ulysses comfort kit. I was Able to get a good price from the Dealer here and went with that. Once you install the Shield for the(Header)rear cylinder and the Scoop on the right you will notice the difference Quickly. The Ulysses Comfort Kit will work on many Model XB bikes. Good Luck.*Jimi[up]

My "inner tube kit" cost nothing and the header wrap about $25.00.

OK, Tony, but when you buy the Comfort Kit from the dealer you can have him reflash the fan profile on the ECM because it doesn't have to run so much. I understand it's much cooler at traffic stops although I bought my bike with the kit already installed.

I would worry about wrapping or ceramic coating the headers b/c it seems to me that would only trap the heat and maybe cause metal fatigue long term.

Lets not start the header wrap debate again. There are tons of post about it. And no it causes no damage besides the fact if you ever decide to take it off its a S.O.B. to clean. I personally run a header with wrap, but the only reason why is to cover up an ugly dent. I have a new header on order and I am just gonna shine it up and just deal with the heat.

That's the point of wrapping headers to trap the heat and keep the exhaust hot with the side bonus being cooler surrounding area temps.

wow.

Question,

If anyone can help, so it's perfectly fine to just get some worm clamps (i have stainless ones) to tighten down directly onto the header (rear cylinder header heat shield) and im good to go?

Any concerns i should know or have a worry about it falling off over time? haha.

Thanks in advance.

Oh I did the right side scoop mod and it lined up perfectly and definitely is a cheap mod that does a great job and helps with cooling. My fan doesn't come on as often and if it does it doesn't stay on as often. Hydro's axel / swingarm sliders are awesome and also thru on some frame sliders. buellxb9sx 2008 here.

^^^^^^^^^^ good one jesse. i'm hoping this somehow morphs into a coveted "oil and filter recommendation" discussion with lesley offering up correct drain plug torque info.
